September 5, 200619 yr You can still purchase a new CRT probably cheaper then repairing the old one. Your description sounds like a gassy or contaminated CRT cathode.CRTs still give a better gamma (contrast) scale with less black or white compression than LCDs except for the most expensive.Regarding the "blue" cast of your LCD there should be a color temperature adjustment in the monitor setup. Choose a warmer, lesser value in terms of a number such as less than 5500 degrees.
September 6, 200619 yr Noel,I bought a Samsung 931B about three months ago and am enjoying it much more than I ever thought I would. Wouldn
September 6, 200619 yr Author Thanks for all the responses. From my other post . . .While this Samsung 204B has great specs, and a pricegrabber user average opinion of 5 stars, and has no pixel defects, I do notice it is very sensitive to me moving laterally. When I'm in dead center looking straight at it about 20", there is an ever so slight off color look (when desktop set to all white) on the entire right side. If I move just 2-3 inches to the right, the off color fades to all white. The left side looks all white until I move that same 2-3" to the right, then the left side looks slightly off color. By off color I mean very slightly darker, as in off-white. If I move to about 3 feet away, the entire screen looks all white. Since this monitor is otherwise totally fine, except for the bright back light bleed through (comp to CRT), has very fast response time and crystal clarity and no pixel defects, does it make sense to try to swap it for another of the same type to try to resolve this slight off coloration that seems to appear with slight changes in position, or is this fairly common, to find very subtle but distinct shading changes like I describe?Charlie and others, what do you think? This issue is visible when the background is all white, and when at or just left of viewing directly in front and and the middle. Am I splitting hairs (for an LCD)?It's certainly perfect in every other way, and this slight off coloration is definitely position dependent, which makes me wonder if it is the sort of thing you find with many LCDs. September 6, 200619 yr Noel,The viewing angle issue is characteristic of TN panels like the 204B and it is a compromise made in exchange for their fast pixel response time. I notice the same thing with my 931B, except that both sides of my screen are the same when looking dead center. Your 204B is wider, so perhaps this effect is more noticeable at close viewing distance. An MVA or PVA panel would be much better in this respect, but much slower in response time, so ghosting would become the issue and they are not recommended for gaming. Anyway, I doubt swapping for another unit would make much difference. And, of course, there is always the chance that another one might have a bad pixel.
September 6, 200619 yr The NEC GX2 20" widescreen is good in this respect, being an MVA panel but also very fast.
