October 13, 200619 yr I'm on the fence as to whether to purchase FSX now or wait till next summer/fall when the smoke has cleared, Vista/DX10 and the appropriate hardware is sorted out, and maybe MS has released some sort of patch or update, etc. I am not very technically savy, and constant tweaking and re-installing FS9 has got me worn down. I have only RealScene and UT, plus a bunch of freeware ac for addons in FS9. * Dell XPS Gen 4 *Fly Only* pc - not online* P-4 3.46GHz Extreme Edition * 2GB DDR2 SDRAM @ 533MHz* ATI Radeon X850XT PCIe Platinum Edition* WDR 74GB 10,000 rpm HD (FS9 only)* 80GB 7200 rpm HD* Sound Blaster Audigy 2ZS THX* XP Media Center Edition w/SP2* DX 9.0cThanks for any input or opinions.Scott
October 14, 200619 yr Hi Scott, Well your system is better than mine and I plan on purchasing it. I have been waiting on some add-ons for FS9 and figure that money would go to FSX and the future. I've tried the demo and its flyable @ medium to high settings on my rig and after hearing the success of the tweaks - it should only be better (hopefully). I'll still leave FS9 on my system and might pickup a PMDG later for it, but I'll eventually go the DX10/Vista route when everything finally shakes itself out. JMHO, hope it helpsRegards, KendallDell 8400 3.2 GHZ H.T.800 FSB/2MB L22 GB 533 DDR2X800XT 256MB/Cat.5.13's6x Adaptive AA/16x HQ A/FIntegrated SoundDual Monitor: Dell 2405/1905CH Yoke/Pedals Regards, Kendall 7800X3D/G.B. October 14, 200619 yr Author Kendall - Well, I guess I'll jump in. There have been some pretty positive posts since this one. I suppose the idea is to go slow and not expect or demand too much out of the box. I will probably upgrade my system as well about a year from now. In the mean time FS9 is a pretty darn good back up. Thanks for the feed back.Scott
October 19, 200619 yr I have the same Dell as you with only 1 GB RAM. FSX runs about 15 fps with sliders at 50%, it's smooth and can't complain. FS9 ran at 34 fps everything maxed out (when locked on 35 fps) with LD767 or PMDG 747. You'll be OK, but not screaming fast. Paul Gugliotta
