December 7, 200619 yr I know a lot of people have gone out and bought Intel's new Core2duo processors for FSX and ther is lots of feedback about FSX performance with them. What I would like to know is how well does FS9 run with them? Are they a big improvement over the top Athlons? I don't wan't to hear about benchmarks only how FS9 performs especially with heavy weather, detailed airports, complex cpu hungry planes, and lots of AI.Thanks, Carlos
December 7, 200619 yr Hi CarlosMy C2D upgrade was made purely with FS9 in mind - have a read of my findings...http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...&topic_id=18636Gary
December 7, 200619 yr Carlos,We noticed a huge improvement in FS9 with this new machine vs. our old one. We find that the blurries are gone, provided we keep the view on one screen. Our video card has the ability to stretch the view across two monitors, effectively giving us a 42" screen. While it looks great in the virtual cockpit, frames are eaten faster than a pizza at a little ceasars convention.FS9 took about 7 minutes to install, and with all sliders maxed, we generally get between 60-80 FPS if we unlock them on the ground at add-on airports. Once airborne, the LDS bounced off 180 FPS. Our flying skills have also improved greatly because FS9 will run with liquid-smooth franmes. It is now possible to hand-fly any landing in any weather and not have to worry about the frames. We have eventually locked them off at 25 FPS. December 7, 200619 yr As with Kittie above: All sliders full: doesn't matter what weather, or where. KSEA is my tester area. Last night I loaded FS Genesis North America DVD Collection - the entire FSG FS2004 terrain mesh; the LandClass Project, then UT USA, plus the sandwich patch - then GE Pro. I flew from KSEA south about 50 miles in the SAAB Safir (VC only w/TrackIR4), then flew from KDRG (Reading, Penn) to Philadelphia using ASv6 weather, ~4,000 ft. No stutters, no blurries. It's been six weeks of FS9 heaven. FSX is good, but relegated to the "whenever" side of my hard drive. I also use some of my favourite a/c as AI machines, too. I get some momentary hesitations in doing this - but I'm talking of an assortment of five Rick Piper RAF Chipmunks, three or four Jet Provosts, "Briefing Time" B25, the R4D6 - plus the normal 100% AI at Reading. Also - to quote someone else a few weeks back - and from all performance tests and bechmarks I've seen world-wide - the Core2 Duo processor blows all Athlon procs into next week! My only caveat is that - doing it again - I would go with a high-end nVidea card instead of the ATI card because I would dearly love to try the Matrox TripleHead2Go system. December 7, 200619 yr Tried it the other day with PMDG737 VC at EGKK. Everything 100% gave around 60fps:-eek edit:Thats with Ultimate Terrain. Regards Howard H D Isaacs
December 9, 200619 yr Thank you guys, that is exactly what I wanted to hear. Will be building my new Conroe system for FS9. Will use X on occasion but 9 will stay my primary sim. Already have a BFG 7900GTX 512 that just needs less cpu bottlenecking so I'm halfway there.Regards, Carlos
