December 20, 200619 yr >OK..even if you do that... where do you go from there?>Thinking out loud at a late hour::)You wouldn't have to go anywhere. You would know definitively where your system stands in FS with respect to others.>Say you and I have the same system and you get 25FPS and I get>20FPS. Now what?>Then we could rule out your system being slower because of hardware. We would then know that your system was slower because ______ (fill in the blank: software/OS config issue, FS config issue). But NOT hardware. That would be ruled out because we have identical rigs down to the factory in Malaysia where the cpu's were die'ed out.>With these bench marks like HDTach and 3DMark, Aquamark3>etc...it breaks it down to a reasonable component. It compares>Video, hardisk and the CPU seperately too. So you can do>something with the narrowed results. >>Thats your objective right? to be able to do something with>those numbers to change the situation.>Yes and synthetic benches have their place. However, just because I get a higher Aquamark score than you, does not automatically mean that my PC will be faster than yours in FS. That's the drawback to synthbenches. But of course you know that...>Once you have the Hardware tuned to the best it can be, Then>you focus on the Sim and its cfg files. They are not mutually>exclusive.>yepAnd that's just it. You could tweak the hardware and Os side of things using the synth benches. Then once you had that pretty well dialed in, you could move on the tweaking the FS side--and that, to me, is where comparative benches based on a standardized config/flight would come in handy. It would allow a person to see where they stood in relation to others with similar hardware.Of course it's all moot point since it will never happen. :)RhettAMD 3700+ (@2530 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
