Strange Behavior on FSX in Vista

Featured Replies

All - I set up a new system for FSX about a week ago, and I'm experiencing some strangeness on the video front. The system is a Dell running Vista (32 bit) on an Intel Core Duo 6600 (3.2 MhZ)with 2GB RAM and an nVidia 7900 GS graphics card with the latest Vista drivers. The game goes through the load and at about 82% complete, the screen starts to flicker a bit and the mouse pointer turns from white to black. Then it completes the load, but instead of going into the simulation, the screen starts to flash. During this flash, you see the outline of the graphics (aircraft, instrument panel, terrain, weather, etc) with sharp primary colors followed by a little glimpse of the real thing. If I do a control-alt-delete a few times and force it, i'll get the simulation to look ok after a few minutes. But this is really ugly and about half the time, it doesn't work at all. I've attached a link to a video i made of the screen so you can see for your self. It's low quality, but you get the idea. The video is at http://www.davidpugh.org/video/fs_movie.wmvAny help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.Dave

Looks like the computer is having flash backs to a previous life.. (FS9)Or its having a nightmare LMAO!Sorry mate i couldn't resist!JC

Hi Dave,Are you running your processor Overclocked? If yes try to run it with default settings. I experienced similar flicker when I switching to full screen. But this was not related to O.C...I heard FSX has some memory leakage issue too...Regards

All - Thanks for the replies. I have not overclocked the machine, and it appears the memory utilization is pretty stable. It's also odd that I'm not seeing anything at all on the second monitor. I'll try disabling it and see what happens. Also, to answer the fist poster's question, the power supply is a 750 Watt unit on the Dell XPS line of desktops. Thanks ...Dave

All - I've found the solution ... kind of. It turns out to be a multi-monitor issue (and I guess others were having similar issues as looking at a higher up thread). I disabled the second monitor and that did the trick. This time, the flicker happens only once when the system starts up and then goes away. I'm going to mess around with it a little more and see if i can't get it to settle down. I'll keep this group posted if I find more out. Thanks.Dave
