January 14, 200719 yr I just setup TripleHead2Go with 3 brand new LG L1970HR monitors. Each monitor has a different color cast associated with it even though they are all identical. I Robert Chartoff
January 14, 200719 yr Author I just thought I'd add an update to my post. I visually calibrated each of the 3 monitors using my Apple 30 inch Cinema Display as a reference. It took some time but I eventually got all 3 desktops exactly matching the Apple that I usually fly with, having to use a different set of color settings for each one. Once I had the desktops looking alike, I then set up a flight with TH2G and applied some nVidia color correction settings as some final tweaks. I then did a number of flights over various colored terrain (desert, mountains, the green Pacific North West, etc.) and found that all 3 matched up very well. So it appears that I've solved this matching problem and I'm very satisfied with the result. Now if I could just decide whether I like the single 30 inch Apple or the TH2G array! But I still am wondering, ought there to have been such variance in these 3 monitors? Any thoughts? Thanks, Robert Robert Chartoff
January 14, 200719 yr I have 3 Samsung Syncmaster 731B's and all 3 of them were identical in their display visuals. If i set all 3 to the exact same settings they all look identical.
January 14, 200719 yr Author Interesting. I may decide to swap these out in that case. Who knows what might happen to them over time. But they sure are looking good now.Robert Robert Chartoff
January 15, 200719 yr I'm using 3 NEC 19 inch monitors straight out the box with TripleHead2Go module - no problems with colour variation.Martin
January 15, 200719 yr I thought long and hard about a 30" DELL vs. triple LCD with Triplehead and decided to go for the latter after reviewing the phsyical aspects of several possible set-ups. The field of view is far larger and more realistic with triple LCDs than a single huge LCD panel. Plus you can angle in the triple LCD panels to emulate the peripheral vision of real life even more whereas the 30" panel is just a huge wide piece of hardware straight ahead. January 15, 200719 yr Greetings all,I agree with your observation totally. I just ordered a new card and the 3head2go. I am now researching monitors. Thanks for sharingBest regardsAndrew
January 15, 200719 yr MartinI am using also a TH2G, INTEL 6700, 2 GB Corsair and two 8800 GTS with 6 monitors. How do you run TWO TH2G on one system?Matrox told me that we can only run ONE TH2G on a PC!Peter
January 16, 200719 yr First of all, Robert the same thing happened to me with my 3 Dell 19' LCD's, though I did eventually manage to get them fairly close. I can still see the differences in a staic or paused situation, but in flight, it's not so apparent.Lastly JS, I completely agree, the peripheral cues you get with 3 monitors arrange parabolically in front of you is breath-taking and completely immersive. Those cues are present in real flight and missing them means missing out on the true sensations of flying. I'll never go back to one monitor!Regards, http://www.my-buddy-icon.com/Icons/objects/red_3d_plane.gifAlex ChristoffN562ZBaltimore, MD PowerSpec G426 PC running Windows 11 Pro 64-bit OS, Intel Core i7 11700K @ 3.60GHz 30 °C, 4089MB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 , ASUS TUF Z590-Plus Gaming motherboard, Samsung 870 EVO 2TB SSD, Samsung 750 EVO 500GB SSD, Acer Predator X34 34" curved monitor (external view), RealSim Gear G-1000 avionics suite, RealSim Gear GNS 450, Slavix Stay Level Custom Metal Panel, Honeycomb Alpha Yoke, Redbird Alloy THI, Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals.
January 17, 200719 yr I am now tweaking my brand new Triplehead set-up 1x24" and 2x20.1" DELL LCDs and the effect is sensational. I have 60" of desk covered ! January 17, 200719 yr Hi RobertI'm running TH2Go with 3 x VX912 19" monitors and I have distinct colour difference between the centre monitor and the 2 outer screens - how did you adjust your colours? I can adjust the settings on the monitor itself but cant seem to find a 100% solution - most of the time I'm just ignoring it...CheersMike
January 17, 200719 yr Author Mike, it's a time consuming process, but here goes. This is not a scientific approach and doesn't use the hardware that graphics professionals use to calibrate their monitors. As I see it, the important thing here is to get the desktops on the 3 monitors looking alike. Then, when you have achieved this, you can do all your color tweaking with the video card, thus keeping the color consistent across all 3 monitors. I used a neutral gray desktop and just tried to get all 3 desktops looking identical. The angle at which you view the desktops can affect how they look, as can the ambient lighting. So all this must be controlled.I just set up on my desktop the 3 19 inch monitors connected to my FSX PC with TH2G. I also set up nearby an Apple 30 inch Cinema Display powered by a different computer as a reference standard. I used it because I know that photographs I edit on this monitor display colors as I would want them to be on my HD plasma with minimal tweaking of the plasma's settings. Whether it's displaying "accurate" color or not I don't know. But I like it and so decided to use it as a reference. The only setting you can adjust on the Apple is brightness. All other tweaks are done with the video card. As an alternative to a neutral gray desktop, you could use the default desktop that the PC version of Photoshop uses. I picked the monitor that displayed the least color cast and placed it in the center. Then I matched this monitor to the Apple. I then repeated the process for each of the remaining 2 monitors, referencing both the Apple and the center monitor. My monitors had picture settings for brightness, contrast, and gamma and color settings for temperature, red, blue and green. I just fiddled with these settings in a trial and error process until I got all 3 desktops looking alike. This is what takes the time, and understanding how the complementary colors work will help. But this should become apparent after a little trial and error. Then I ran FSX in various types of landscapes and lighting conditions and used the video card to tweak the brightness, contrast, and color settings across all 3 monitors at once. This gave me consistent color across the 3 monitors in FSX. I did find, however, that I liked different video card settings for different terrain, and thus set up and saved special video card settings for the Pacific Northwest as opposed to a desert environment, etc. I guess I got a little carried away.I hope this helps.Robert Robert Chartoff
January 18, 200719 yr Don't forget to set WideViewAspect=True in your fsx.cfg folder under the Display section if you have not already. You'll get an even wider view and zoom capability. Re WOZ
