Major Stutter in FSX
Looks like I will do a couple more tests then - its most bizarre, Win7 is all installed and runs a dream, the GTX580 is not overclocked and when I have monitored its use when running FSX its hardly being touched (memory not over used and is not struggling speed wise - plenty of headroom left, same with the I5 - no core is going over 60% use, temps are approx 50-60c when it steps up to 4.5ghz).Stutters and blurries were happening with base FSX installed before anything else loaded in - swapping Nvinsp to "enhance" sorted the stutter but turned off AA so I put it back on in FSX and AA then looked to be working. Think I will delete the FSX.cfg file and try again as per all your suggestions - thanks everyone and Happy Christmas!CheersMike

Major Stutter in FSX
Yep, sure did. Changed to 'enhance' in Nvinsp and applied and then launched FSX and AA was gone, severe jaggies... Out of curiosity I applied AA in FSX and suddenly all was well - most bizarre! General consensus is to turn off in FSX and apply via Nvinsp isn't it?This sim is a real contradiction to get right!!!!CheersMike

Just 1 thing I have noticed... I had to turn on AA in FSX for AA to work when using Enhance - does that sound right? Thanks

Major Stutter in FSX
Hi,Thanks for the tip - I had looked for that setting based on one of your previous posts but couldn't see it for looking!!! :Rolling Eyes:It does seem to have made a real difference, got the I5 overclocked to 4.5 and the temps are all good FPS is staying at 30 and now I have set my LOD radius to 8.5 the blurries seem to have gone too. Thanks everyone for their tips in this thread.Mike

New install - cant find the answer!
Ok thats great thanks - so does NVInspector actually need to be running for the settings to be taking effect? I thought it's a set once and never worry again? In summary I therefore need to:a) Get my overclock sortedb ) Set NVInspc) Turn off AA in FSXd) What do I set filtering to?Many thanks againMike

New install - cant find the answer!
Hi,Just swapping over from FS9 to FSX and have followed the guide from NickN but also used the FSX.cfg tool from ******* but I seem to be reading conflicting views for setting AA...Nick says use Nvidia Inspector and turn off AA in FSX but I read a post from ******* saying you don't need NVInspector anymore and just turn AA on in FSX - what's the current thinking on this? Also, I have the PC running great (5 secs from power button to in win7) following Nicks guide but with only base FSX installed and Acceleration I seem to be getting a few stutters even when flying the default microlight, this is with the FSX config file from *******, any pointers?PC config is:I5-2500K - still on stock until I move to overclock it8gb RAM2 x SSD (1 for Win7 64bit) the other dedicated for FSXGTX580 3072mb memoryMany thanksMike

AI Traffic
>Welcome to the AI "Crack House". Trust me, the addiction will>destroy you.>So true ;) I still use UT but also supplement it by replacement / additional flight plans and have replaced all the models with the Aardvark/FSP/EvolveAI etc. models, a very time consuming task but worth it (Big thanks to all the modellers, flightplanners and repainters out there :-wave )I use UT for the Timetables, Routemaps and Compile options.CheersMike

AI aircraft lights 2 big and brite
Hi,Try adjusting the following settings in you fs9.cfg file (think they go under [DISPLAY] and there was a sticky on the Matrox forum):RUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR=0.30 //scales edge, center, end, touchdown, runways RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR=0.70 // scales VASI lights) RUNWAY_LIGHTS_APPROACH_SCALAR=0.70 // scales approach light bars RUNWAY_LIGHTS_STROBE_SCALAR=0.70 //scales RAILs and ODALs) You can play around with the settings to find something you like...Hope it works as I too found it frustrating.CheersMike

New install - whats happening?
Cheers guys for the tips - did the classic mistake of ignoring the manual and just reading the quick start :-doh - I was keen to get going!!Will give the tutorials a go...This wouldnt explain the odd frequency though, will give the plan another flight and see if it happens again (can also check my altitudes too :-shy )CheersMike

New install - whats happening?
Hi Ray,It was set for Auto - I will refly the route tomorrow and see what happens again...One other issue is when I am in level flight at the assigned altitude I keep being informed about my flight level even though all looks as it should be - am I missing something else?Starting to get to grips with it and so far I like it!! Love the chatter too!CheersMike

300 budger, upgrading CPU and mobo
Personally I'd go for Core2Duo as Intel cpus are beating AMD now but you will need a new mobo and probably DDR2 memory, was it AM2 or S939 processor you were considering because the S939 has been replaced by AM2....???CheersMike

New install - whats happening?
Hi,I've just installed and tried this flight as my first test flight, I didnt think it sounded like a valid frequency but pressed 1 to accept just in case. I havent edited any files but installed off the cd then I installed the 4.3 updates and ran the online update button. When I installed the update I have done it for fs9 & fsx so I have 2 directories and put the MakeRwys file in both FS directories, also ran the Rebuild Scenery option.CheersMike

New install - whats happening?
Hi,Just installed and got everything running ok for a test flight, EGNM to EGLL. Flight plan was to go EGNM to POL to MCT to EGLL (simple) but as I passed POL and got near MCT I was advised to contact London Centre on 18.77 so I took option 1 - Ack and Contact but all this did was give me 2 beeps and then I was repeatedly advised to contact London Centre... Any ideas?CheersMike

What would you buy for $2000
Sounds like a good idea at the moment - hang on. ATI have not yet released their dx10 cards, but the first lot must be soon (R600s I think) and nvidia may be releasing their second gen cards seeing as their 8800s have been around a while now (well in terms of hardware).Current cpu "king of the hill" is intels core2duo and will probably be for this year seeing as amd was last year plus considering the lead time involved in creating new cpus.Minimum ram requirement will be 2gb (I would be considering 4gb for a vista / fsx spec).HD give the Raptors a check - serial ata but with 10000rpm spin speed - they are not large but are fast and big enough (oldest version is only 36gb, then 74gb and now 150gb).I can definately recommend water cooling - obviously keeps things cool:-roll but is also so much quieter - there are some kits you can consider (e.g. Swiftech) if you dont want to select the different components...Theres lots out there but I think there will be new stuff coming soon, especially after dx10 becomes more popular - just my 2p for what its worth...CheersMike
