Large LCD TV's for monitors??

Featured Replies

I am intregued by the using of 37" LCD ( or larger), TV's for use with FS, I am told that the "p" 1080 is the way to go, they are all somewhat high priced, but the Westinghouse just went down again..........but others are $+600 more.........anybody know why?? Also am told, you can hook up a tuner card and play HDTV on this setup?? Is this a big deal?? What is the parts list for this setup??? Many thanks for the input B42L8

The native resolution is very low compared to similar and even much smaller LCD panels. I believe the best res you will get is 1366x768, which would look very chunky in FS on a 37" display compared to say 1680x1024 on my 22" LCDs.Gary

Gary, I see a Westinghouse 1080p, but am trying to compare to my 24" CRT's, those have res higher than 1600, so should be close??

the 1080P means its a 1920 x 1080 resolution (the P means it supports that resolution at a progressive scan rate instead of the more normal - for TV stuff anyway - interlaced scan). The progressive part is mostly important for computer use and for the new HD DVD players (which also do 1080P).Westinghouse makes some good stuff, from what I've seen at the TV store. They generally are a few hundred less than the closest comparable (unless the other brand is on sale :-> ). If you have an HD Tuner (either ATSC for off-the-air or HD Digital Cable for, well, cable) then they will show HDTV just fine, but don't have an actual HD tuner built into them (part of the reason they tend to be cheaper than the others, which generally do have that tuner) - heck, I watch HD Cable on my 1680x1050 Gateway 21" just fine.I definitely wouldn't consider one of the 1366 x 768 units though (still not sure why there are so many different models at the resolution, it looks like crap at anything over 17" or so, and some of them cost more than the Westinghouse units, go figure :-> )
