What do they mean by "sandbagging" the roadmap? I've never heard that term before. lol

The funny thing is, as he describes it, they weren't sandbagging at all. According to his story chips simply exceeded their expectations. So I think Charlie should probably look up the term "sandbagging" himself.

MauiHawk,I don't suppose you plan on benching your single core against your upcomming dual core do you? If you do please share the results, as I am interested to know if its worth my money to get a an X2 for the meantime, as I don't plan to get my C2D rig until later in the year. I know Phil siad there would be up to 1/3 decrease in laod times with a second core, but I don't think there has been mention of what can be expected during flight. I've got a good OC on this chip, so I don't want to drop her unless it would make a significant difference, as my single threaded games will likely suffer cuz I doubt I'll hit 2.8 on the X2 model I would buy. thanks

I'm keeping my 3700+ FS rig until this next gen of desktop cpu's comes out...What ram are you running to get 2.8? The most I have gotten is about 2.5 and that's not stable in FS.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2310 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 2.5-3-3-8 (1T), WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian case

... I'm excited to see for myself the result. However, my hunch is that much of the benefit while in flight won't be as much in FPS as it will be in simply getting tiles loaded quicker. Since it sounds like you've been following Phil's blog comments pretty closely, that's why I'm so interesting in the fiber time setting because I think it should allow you to convert some of the bonus texture loading work into FPS instead. Also, you may have to wait a bit... since I just bought an 8800 gts a couple months ago, I figured the only way I could get my wife to go along with the purchase is if I counted it as my b-day gift (my wife is now a stay-at-home mom with our 8-month old, so our budget is not what it used to be). My b-day isn't until June 2, and although I've ordered it, I've yet to try to ask if she'll actually let me open it when I get it or whether I have to wait.BTW, if you have a 939 system like me, I ordered this:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819103052Given how high 939 prices are vs AM2 now that 939 is out of production, this is a really good deal (and free shipping too!). It sounds like 2.4GHz OC should be a given... if I get anything above that, I'll just consider it icing on the cake. I don't think I'll push this one as hard as I did my current 3500, though-- it no longer runs stable OC'd... I think I simply over-volted it for too long, so I think I'll stick with what I can get at stock voltage with the X2.

>What ram are you running to get 2.8? The most I have gotten>is about 2.5 and that's not stable in FS.Its actually the cheapest Corsair XMS model. It doesn't overclock well, only to 429MHz. To get the CPU that high I had to drop the memory divider down to the 166Mhz (333) setting, that way with my FSB overclocked to 248MHz, the ram only runs at 429MHz.Set your HTT to 4x, and memory to 166, and give it a go. Here's my clocks and voltages. I do have my memory voltage up one tick, otherwise I could nto get the memory stable at anything over 420MHz. I think its 2.5v stock. MauiHawkI suppose you are right about the quicker tile load in. That in its self might be worth it for me as some of the aircraft I fly tend to move pretty fast. lol My 3700 actually went to 2.75 on stock voltage, up from 2.2, so I got a good one. Good luck in getting an earlier B-day present! ;-)

And more still: http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/31995/113/CPUs and GPUs are going away. If we pick our next systems carefully, they will probably be the last traditional CPU/GPU system we'll ever have. AMD's buy of ATI begins to come into focus. Nvidia's riding high at the moment, However long term, they're toast. The article is describing that 2 of AMDs new R600s GPUs (SLI'd) can do the processing work of 30 C2Ds. It's just a matter of integration and programming. AMD (err, ATI) has it aLl oVer INTC in GPU design. Nvidia doesn't have the CPU background to do the integration. The survivors will be INTC and AMD. Place your bets.AMD's being crushed right now . . . Hummm? Tempting, don't you think? Who's thinking a new vacation house in 2011-12?

Hello All, WHO'S CASE IS THAT? ANYONE HAVE A LINK?Best,Clay

When the Agena-FX Quad cores are released I will drop two of them into my dual socket mobo.I can crunch 4 seti@home work units and fly PMDG's Queen now at the same time. Barcelona will be a huge improvement.

Agree, just wonder in which quantites they'll reach us simple users? @ Sam: New holiday house? Holiday? :-) Interesting question nevertheless. I'ld say Intel for sure with a couple of further questions: - How large will Intel 'allow' AMD/ATI/? to be till then? - Will it be IBM? Toshiba? Samsung? Perhaps even Sony? The German Government?!? :-) Cheers and kind regards Jaap

Hello again, I know this really isn't the subject matter, but does anyone know who makes the case with the 4 green fans in the side which is pictured? Thanks,Clay
