hi alli have a current 500W Antec powersupply, will this be ok to use for the Core2Duo processor and the equivalent motherboard?i intend to put in a 8800GT 320 card in as well.

Yes for sure. I use an Antec 550w with my 8800GTX and Athlon 64, and my Athlon/8800GTX certainly uses WAY more power than a C2D/8800GT combo. If you were putting an 8800GTX in there you might be pushing it, but C2D and 8800GT will be perfectly fine.

What else are you going to add. How many HDs etc?But I think you are good to go.I had a 550W Enermax and had 2 X 250 7500RPM HD + 2 X 150 10,000RPM Raptor HD (Total 4 HDs)+ 8800GTXand OC to 3.4GhzAnd it was fine. I later added a new PSU. But really needen't have.Manny

ok kool thanks for your repliesi intend to buy the parts and do it myself this timeas i worked out i can save $400Aud by using my current parts like DVs Soundcard Case PSU.Is it difficult to construct a system yourself?

Its not to hard, but make sure you take ESD precautions, else you might fry your parts. There's lots of system build guides on the net if you search for them.

I've ordered a 8800GTS 640 which should arrive any day now. I noticed on another post regarding power requirements for the 8800. I just noticed that my Antec 550 may not deliver enough Amps to the 8800.Yikes.The PSU is Antec Truepower 2.0 550W.I see above that others are using Antec 550's with the 8800 with no problems. Should I upgrade the PSU or see how it performs first. I'm a little worried about busting something.

I upgraded my 500 watt to a Corsair HX620. It has lots of amps across 3 rails. You have to look close at the ratings, the key is the total watts over the 12V lines. Just a stock duo and 8800GTS is probably fine on most 500's. If you want to add extra HD's, a 2nd video card, quad core, or even overclock more might be best. I felt better with the 620Watt unit.I have the MB/CPU on one rail, the 8800 on another and the HD's/DVD etc on the last. Seems to work well.

I assume that means I need to connect both to the 8800, as it requires 24A. Sorry, but I'm a noob when it comes to PSU's :-newbie

The 8800 GTS needs up to 26A and you have 38A total, so you have PLENTY of margin. My 480W has 28A total and runs my 8800 GTS and everthing else I have hooked up, even OCed, just fine. Just run the power inputs to the video card off two separate power connectors from your PSU, and all will be well.Gary
