Nvidia 160.03 drivers for FSX

Featured Replies

Just wanted to report I tried the beta drivers for all NVidia 6/7/8 cards on 32Bit XP, and got a very nice boost in FPS with all settings the same. The drivers are on guru3d and for once supports all cards. I saw today that 160.04 are now available for d/l as well - didn't try these.http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1633As always with beta driver, use with caution.Etienne

Thanks for the heads up!Whoa. Talking about a weird numbering schema.84-91-158-160Pat

>The drivers are on guru3d and for once>supports all cards. The 7800GT is *not* listed as a compatible card. :(Kind of weird they list the 7800GS and 7800GTX but not 7800GT.I am going to give this driver a try anyway. The driver I'm using is getting pretty dated now (Guru3D 93.71)RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Ok I have installed this driver, and did a 2 hour flight. So far, seems ok. I didn't do any direct fps before-and-after comparisons, I am getting lazy I guess.I don't change drivers often but I figured it was time...Oh, and this driver DOES appear to work on a 7800GT even though the card is not in the list of compatible cards. I think that was an ERROR on their part. A 7800GT is the same as a 7800GTX, just clocked a tad lower.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian

nVIDIA has released 162.15 beta for WinXP 32.Downloading them now.Ulf B

Should work with any 6/7/8 series GPUs - the .inf file is quite comprehensive but there's always a chance that one specific model isn't covered. The control panel is also an improvement with a tree view - I can't remember that in the older set.

I actually like the "classic" control panel. I see that it is not an option with this driver. I am disappointed in that. I tried this driver yesterday and, whilst it worked fine with FSX, AA and AF stopped working completely with FS9. In fact, all of the 1xx.xx drivers I have tried so far break AA and AF in FS9. Back to 91.47 WHQL for me!Gary

Hi all,I've run a test with the 162.15 beta drivers. Better fps, somewhere between 6% upt to 15%. The test was Q&D. But I got a lot more shimmering. So i fired nHancer up and configured multisample AA combined with 2x AA. Eliminated the shimmering, but reduces fps.I'll keep these drivers.Ulf B :-)BFG 8800GTX, dual view 1920x1200 and 1280x1024

There was a leak of 162.15 with which one user reported getting higher marks in FEAR on Vista vs XP:http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread...?t=93866&page=6But this is just one game, obviously...Also, NVidia says an official beta release for Vista will arrive in the next couple days, so it is probably best to wait for those.

Ditto, Plus - I ALWAYS use the refresh rate overide function to force max refresh for my monitor in the given resolutions I use.I am reluctant to add even more applications to my rig just so I can tweak the driver, so here's what I do ...Use regedit.Goto: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARENVIDIA CorporationGlobalNvCplApiPoliciesCreate new dword called: SedonaDisableGive it a hex value of 2This will now give you the old control panel as an option from the nvidia cp menu. (XP Drivers ONLY)Then you can always use coolbits2.reg file (get it from guru3d) to open up all the extra options within the new (old style) control panel.Hope that helps, Garetthttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/174471.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/174472.jpg

I downloaded these last night and I saw about a 6-10 FPS gain all around. In the Citation II from Eaglesoft sitting at 34R facing Seattle I am getting atounr 40 FPS whereas before I was getting around 34-35 and once I get airborne I see about a 10 FPS gain. Not bad in my opinion.

Thanks Ryan, I was hoping there would be a workaround. I have just reinstalled XP and FSX using the 91.47 driver and, with everything going tickety-boo so far, I might wait at least a few days before getting experimental with drivers again!Gary
