New Nvidia Beta Driver 162.18

Featured Replies

Hi all,Does anyone have any input/experience with these new drivers? AND: are they an enhancement? Thanks

I am using these drivers and they work fine. All the changes should be in the release notes.

I am using 161.18 drivers replacing 168.15 (8800GTX). No performance gained nor expected. The 18's work fine.Check the release notes for your own card changes.John

Anyone know why the numbers increased and then decreased. I was using the 165.03 and when I installed the 162.18, it told me I was replacing newer files with older files. And now, after installing these drivers, there seems to be a PCI device that windows can't figure out what it is. But there are only two PCI devices in my system that I am aware of, an Audigy 4 SE sound card and a nVidia 8800 GTS 640, both of which are listed in the device manager. I've tried removing it, but it keeps trying to install it after removal.I guess I should make sure the onboard sound card is still disabled. It's a DFI Infinity 975G/X mb.Otherwise, everything is working fine as far as I can tell.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180

They are working on multiple driver revisions concurrently, so I would not be surprised if some of the file dates are different.

Hi guysI'm new to this forum, but I have been involved in the Nvidia forums for years and go by the same name of FALCON.Here's the deal on the drivers: (I'm using non Vista numbering examples here)What's the difference between the official WHQL 158.22 driver and the 16X.XX versions? Nothing you will notice. A few compatability issues and game bugs were resolved and that's it. But there is a huge difference in the 158.xx drivers and the former 97.92 drivers. they are slightly faster and render textures with noticably greater detail. Not a small feat. If you havn't updated to at least 158.XX then do so.What about the numbering schemes? At any given time numerous manufacturers of video cards, and other graphics "tweakers" are working on Beta versions of the next drivers that will recieve official WHQL certification (i.e. Station Drivers, Laptopvideo2go, and people ar Guru3D.com [mostly a distribution chanel]). Anyway, these people assign a number to their Beta, so depending on whose Beta you have, it will have their number. Currently (as of 7/17/07)all 16X.XX drivers are Beta. Nvidia is only offering the 162.18 as a Beta right now, and that is even a switch from former proceedure when they did not offer any betas. If you hit the Nvidia forum and go to the drivers forum, you will come across additional places to the ones I listed where Betas are available, -- but they are use at your own risk. Conclusion: if you're leading edge, but a tad video squeamish get the Nvidia offered beta 162.18. If you're conservative, stick with Nvidia's WHQL driver. If you're adventuresome, go hunting, but you can waste a lot of time hoping for a fix that won't be there.Michael

Can anyone please tell me if there is a difference between Nvidia's 162.18 drivers and the ones from Guru3d? Thank you.

Brilliant!!Thank you very much for your detailed and very useful explanation, Michael!! This lights it up should have answered many of the questions going around here!Best regards,Sam
