Does Vista add an extra load to a Graphics Card versus XP

I have two hard drives, one with XP one with Vista 32 Ultimate.Video Card: Asus 6800GTLatest drivers. In XP, FSX runs great. In Vista, after about 5 minutes the entire FSX screen will freeze and I'll get weird color patterns all over it. A few moments later the entire screen will go black, and I have to reboot Vista. This also happens if I run Stalker.I'm thinking my Video Card is getting too hot... but why would it get hotter when using Vista versus XP?Doesn't FSX in Vista automatically disable Aero, so you'd think the load levels in Vista versus XP would be about the same. Thanks,Bryan

It does almost does sound as if you have a heating issue....strangeAre you playing in windowed mode or full screen? Aero should not affect the load on your video card if you are in full screen.By chance have you tried playing with different revisions of vista drivers for the 6800GT?

Hey Bryan,Saw your post and thought I would see if I could help. Feel free to email me if you want. Are you using the 162.18 drivers? If so are you also using NHancer? You are going to want to do both. Let me know,-Paul

Hey Bryan,NHancer is a tool to override the NVIDIA driver settings. http://www.nhancer.com/ The newer NVIDIA drivers have all sorts of issues with FS by default. Most of us have installed NHancer and then removed all of the Nvidia FS profiles before doing anything. What is the Forceware Driver Version listed in the Nvidia Control Panel? Is it 162.18?Let me know,Thanks Bryan,-PaulPrimary RigLiquid CooledIntel C2D E6600 @3.2 gigsAsus P5N32SLI-Plus2 gigs Corsair XMS PC6400 4 4 4 12 @810Dual OC'd XFX 8800GTX @ 2 gigs24 inch Widescreen LCD 16XAA/16XAFDual 19 inch LCD'sRaid-0+1PCPower and Cooling 1k Quad SLIhttp://home.comcast.net/~psolk/3monitorsa.htmlBackup RigAMD 4000 San Diego @ 2.72 Gigs Kingston Corsair XMS CL2XFX 7900 GTX Raid-0psolk.jpg
