http://www.coolaler.com/~coolaler/forum/pr...?t=157070&pp=10Come on. You're not gonna let the Coolaler beat cha. You got da cooling. Crank 'er on up. 1.55v CPU or bust. We want to see 4.1, at least. See if the ram will hang with a TI setting too. Send the kids next door and keep that extinguisher handy.

Hi Vic,I am very jealous of your new mobo!!!from an unhappy owner of P5N32E-SLi, it simply suck for Quad core OC.Hi Sam,By the way, the link you post. That is a P5B-Deluxe!!! I am thinking to buy a new mobo to replace my P5N32E-SLi, could you give me some suggestion? I want the P35 series. Know any model good for OC?Alkit

I'll keep tweaking a bit just out of curiosity but have been reading about walls and holes a bit. Right now, if I kick it up to 1600FSB, it will boot but fails OCCT stability. Since the temps are ok, I can probably up the voltage a tad and try some other memory timings.BUT...I am pleased with what I have. A 47% o/c is not too shabby for a beginner. The real test will come when I load FSX and see if there's a difference.VicVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/

and Vic, since your setup is so similar to mine in terms of video card class, ram speed/amount CPU OC speed (excepting yours is a quaddie of course), then maybe you can do a few benchmarks with me to finally settle the "does quad over dual make any difference" question that so often comes up here. If you do, let me know when you have FSX SP1 up and running, then I'll set you up for the heah-to-head.Gary

OK! OK!A few more tests and then either I'll install FSX under XP or install Vista in dual boot and install FSX under both and then we can test a bit.VicVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/

Well I've settled on a settingstable at 3.601 (400.2 x 9) full load temps 50 - 52C across all 4 cores.Sam - I was able to get to boot at 4ghz but it wasn't stable. I *might* have been able to get it if I really wanted to play with the NB voltages and the CPU voltage. Vcore was 1.5 and NB was on AUTO. Temps were 58C at full load so I had some room BUT my goal was 3.6 which is better than a 50% OC and I'm there.Tell ya one thing tho - that 850WPS pumps out a lot of heat through the vent.Another aside - someone in another post commented about the layout of the P5 - I have to say the layout of the Evga 680i works. I need 5 SATA connections and the placement of the connectors allows enough room for my 8800GTS card (which is 9" long) to fit neatly. Now to install Vista and see if it affects the OC.THEN I'll install FSX.Gee! This hobby is fun! (AND expensive!) :)VicVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/

Bootin' at 4? We have an O/Cer in the house. Notice Coolaler only got a boot there too. 3.6 really seems to be the groove. Water or air? I don't think the GOs much care. They just go there. I'm looking forward to seeing how the X3210/GOs go. They have a thermal limit of 85 degrees. I don't think they'll go much higher than the Q66s, but they might just do it on the factory heatsink.

I actually was able to browse around the system with no problems. When I tried to run SuperPi or OCCT is when it crashed - tried several times but it would only go for about 2 minutes before failing. It's a basic water cooled system - just the CPU. It's built in to the Thermaltake Kandalf case. From what I've been ablt to tell and read in other forums, 3.6 is the sweet spot for the Q6600 G0.I installed Vista on the other partition and now have installed FSX/SP1 for both OS's. The default settings have just about everything maxed - 2High water, Max detail radius, very dense autogen ,etc and with no tweaks other than the AffinityMask I was getting 15fps out of 20 just sitting on the ground at LAX and Seattle. When I started flying around it pretty much stayed at 20and I didn't realize how great FSX looks with most of the bells and whistles working! :)Lost a few FPS in Vista as compared to XP but, in fairness - this was a naked install of both OS with no tweaking. Just updated mobo and video drivers and I didn't shut down any running services.VicVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/

My impression has been that op system tweaking generally only helps systems compensate for either low CPU horsepower or ram starvation. Your's is encumbered by neither. Generally, those suspect processes are not actually running. That Task Manager list is processes that are loaded into ram and ready to run. These processes are not necessarily running. Look the CPU utilization beside each process in TM. Almost entirely, you will see "00." This means the process is loaded into ram and ready to run, but it is nOt running. Shutting down these non-running processes will free up ram, but will not free up CPU cycles . . . because they were not using any to start. So here's the question: Will freeing up additional, minuscule portions of ram increase frame rates or scenery resolution? In the old-days of 512 meg ram installs, you betcha. But with our modern 2+ gig-O-ram systems, improvements might only be apparent to a pre-convinced tweaker. If you have the opportunity, run FSX with 4 gig-0-ram installed. Watch FSX's ram usage compared to a 2 gig install. I tried this and found FSX used significantly more ram with 4 gig installed. My system is so bottlenecked, it didn't really matter. I doubt the 10-20 megs that can be freed by process shutdown tweaking will do much. But that extra 2 gig-O-ram will allow FSX to load an extra 500megs to play with. It'd be interesting to see what happens with a modern system. With the staggering power of 4 core2s running at synchronous RPMs of 3.6Ghz, I don't think op system tweaking will do much . . . although additional physical ram just might.

Sam - I agree about the running processes. Usually, the only ones that I disable are things like AVG that periodically check for updates and start to download them if found and getright which likes to think that getting the weather online needs a download manager. Other than those, I leave everything alone. Even on my old system I could notice no difference with or without the varoius processes.VicVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/
