August 24, 200718 yr Most stores have a 30 day will-refund-the-difference in lower price guarantee.Just last week, I bought my ATI X1950 Pro video card on sale for $169.00.It then went back to its original price for a week.Today, I just checked the website and lo and behold, it is now advertised for $149.00!!!I called the store and they said that I only have to bring in my sales receipt, the current copy of the sale price for the item in the flyer...and they will gladly refund me the difference of the twenty dollars plus tax. It now makes my vid card that much sweeter of a deal. Yeah! So, it pays to monitor the item(s) you bought for a month!Cheers!Mitch

August 25, 200718 yr Author It is fantastic. Glad I took the plunge. Here is the page link to this limited time sale price.Truly, the price for this power-house card is phenomenal.I'm running it at my LCD native 1280x1024. I am seriously thinking of getting another CRT so I can run it at 1600X whatever. I miss that.Cheers!http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetai...500&catid=10524

August 27, 200718 yr Author Oh...because most stores have a lower price guarantee. Futureshop.ca where I bought it does. If their advertised price drops lower than YOU paid within 30 days of your purchase, they will REFUND you the difference, no questions asked.I guess you have to shop where the better policies are.:)I went back, and they refunded me $22.80.It saves them bringing merchandise back. If they would not do that, I would have merely sent it back, got a full refund, and then purchased ANOTHER one for $149.99.They save themselves the trouble.... :)Cheers!Mitch
August 30, 200718 yr I wonder how many online e-tailers have a policy like this? I just bought a new 8600GT video card from ZipZoomFly -- it's not even due to arrive by FedEx until tomorrow -- and they've just put the EXACT same video card on their Labor Day sale for ten bucks less! The sales policy on their site says specifically that they don't do any price-matching, but it says nothing about whether they price-match their OWN prices. Guess I'll call their customer service line and see what they say.
August 30, 200718 yr Author You could try that for sure, LS. On purchases where I need to see with my own eyes (ie monitors) their display qualities, etc...I have settled pretty much on a retailer in Canada. I'm just near the border, so I can jump the big water with convenience. Their prices used to be much higher than the U.S.(reasons of currency exchange), but are now pretty much on par in adjustment. The one thing I like about them (they're a big box) is their very 'customer/consumer' protective policies that work for once, FOR the customer. Mainly, if you treat them honestly---and take or ship something back with no damage and ALL part and acc's included, they don't ever hassle you, but quickly replace or refund your money with no restocking or hold back fees. You also have a grace period for refund and exchange of 14 days from initial walking-out-the-door, or received at your front door. For example;I went over to Ontario, on Monday, purchased a SyncMaster (Samsung) 22 inch wide-view monitor. I was so impressed with what a wide-view monitor added to the flight simulation experience, that I then wanted a monitor that could FULLY utilize and maximise the resolution features of my ATI 1950 Pro card, and then any other card that I might wish to buy in the future. Having decided that, I then went back on Wednesday to the store and replaced (got a full refund, hassle-free) of the SyncMaster 226BW (1680x1050) and then purchased the SyncMaster 245BW (1920x1200). BTW, a simply fantastic, clear, huge piece of eye-candy real-estate! I recommend this monitor to anyone wishing to have 1920x1200 resolution capability and 24 inches at 16:10 aspect ratio. If this resolution capability is not required, than I also highly recommend the 22 inch SyncMaster 226BW. I have used both and have usage knowledge of each.As long as they maintain competitive and good sale pricing strategies, then I'll stick with 'em. So, I'd say it is as important WHERE you drop your quarters, as is the price point of what you are looking for. You have to balance the two.Cheers!Mitch
August 31, 200718 yr Hi Mitch, Well I called ZipZoomFly this evening, and everything worked out to my satisfaction. They are a web-only dealer, with a VERY clear policy that they do not price-match, period. So while they wouldn't offer me a refund, they did offer a store credit for the ten bucks price difference. That was fine with me, because they have a couple items I want on their Labor Day sale. :-) I know of a number of stores that have VERY generous price-matching, refund, and exchange policies, notably Target and Costco. These policies have come in handy for me, because I seem to have a knack for buying something JUST before it goes on sale at a much lower price! ;-) For example, Target just refunded me $45 on a vacuum cleaner purchase that a competitor had put on sale, no questions asked. Before I buy online, I always check the feedback on resellerratings.com. It's worth paying a little more for a vendor that treats you well. Switching topics to wide-view monitors, I'd like to endorse the enthusiastic things you've said about 22-inch (and larger) widescreen monitors. I've wanted a 22-inch widescreen for a few months now and I just couldn't resist it when Best Buy ran a sale on one for just $179. The brand was Westinghouse, and it was pretty basic. Still, they sold out their entire stock within an hour on a Sunday morning. When I first hooked up the monitor, I have to admit I was pretty disappointed. The colors looked washed-out and the text resolution was very poor. I changed some of the video card settings but it didn't help much. When I tried to increase the contrast using the monitor's buttons it only made matters worse. I eventually figured out that I needed to change the resolution to the monitor's default 1680x1050 IN THE WINXP CONTROL PANEL. Wow, what a difference it made! Text was suddenly sharp and clear. After fiddling a bit more with the monitor's buttons, I realized that a LOWER numbered setting actually INCREASED the contrast as it appeared on-screen. (Go figure... maybe that's the way they do things in Taiwan?). Now my new monitor is bright, the colors are vibrant, and everything is sharp and clear. Anyway, now that I've figured out most of its idiosyncrasies I'm in love with my new el-cheapo 22-inch Westinghouse! While it's by no means as good as a Samsung, it is still the most gorgeous monitor I've ever owned. Getting it for just $179 is the bargain of the century as far as I'm concerned. And it's so much lighter and thinner than the aging 17" CRT it replaced! Of course, now that I've found out how great these large widescreeen monitors are I want a 24-inch one, too! Newegg is running a $479.99 sale on the monitor you have (Samsung 245BW) which is VERY tempting! Unfortunately I think I'm going to have to wait on that one. I've heard rumors that blowout prices on large-screen LCDs will be coming this Fall. I sure hope so! Thanks very much for the good info and advice. You're absolutely right that a large widescreen makes a HUGE difference in FSX! - Lee
August 31, 200718 yr Author Hey Lee, :)Great to hear that you are having a good deal with your 22 inch! It does for the human experience, what a high-end graphics card does for simulation logistics.I'm having such a blast with this 245BW, that my feet are starting to take root down in front of my computer desk :(Until I got my first wide-screen last Monday---I had NO idea how much more credit and graph share a monitor deserves in the pie-chart depicting a flight simulation session.Like everybody else, it was the LAST thing I would have spent money on to upgrade...and the word upgrade truly is a misnomer. Most of us, matter of fact, only REPLACE our dearly-departed PRIOR monitor---but have never thought of it as an upgrade item, like for instance---how a graphics card is thought of.I have six graphics cards laying in the depths of my computer desk drawer as I type this, LOL...and all of them work. Sick, huh?The first one was an ATI Mach64 Turbo (yeah...don't even bother to figure out my age, ROTF!) and the latest is my ATI X800XT. That truly is my back up. The rest are still there to remind me of how many dollars this hobby has consumed since that Atari 800 came home in '84. Sheesh...lol.Lee, you won't go wrong with the Samsung SyncMaster 245BW. I have no intention of going beyond 24 inches. It is large enough as a desktop monitor. I don't need rezo beyond its 1920x1200. That rezo gives real-world renderings. I know...I have the T-shirt! :)BTW, I had to do some work (yeah...I use the computer to pay for flight simulation, food, shelter,....and probably in that order..) and now I can run two legals side-by-side in M.S. Word. Very cool!Cheers!Mitch
