September 26, 200718 yr For the comparison shopper in most of us: HKPEC has previously correctly revelead the prices of Intel processors the last 2 quarters. The prices in the attachment of course are for OEM. Scheduled launch is early 2008. They look VERY affordable and L2 Cache sizes seem to be growing ...:-eekRegards, KendallDell 8400 3.2 GHZ H.T.3GB 533 DDR2X800XT 256MB/Catalyst driver - 7.1's6x AA/16x HQ A/FDiamond Xtreme/Logitech X-530'sDual Monitor: Dell 2405/1905CH Yoke/Pedals - Saitek Throttle Regards, Kendall 7800X3D/G.B. September 26, 200718 yr Question: is quadcore less overclockable? I am inclined to go quad even if perf is essentially the same as for dual core, just for the headroom if you will. September 26, 200718 yr Thanks interesting.I had hoped for higher clock speeds guess we have to wait for that, with most now running at 3.2GHz +, I'm waiting for a stock 3.6+ quad before upgrading. Those who did not upgrade yet, waiting for Jan looks the best way to go.o/c quads is harder but mostly due to heat, just add a big CPU heatsink and lots of case fans and it works fine. September 26, 200718 yr HKPEC has always been reliable it seems. Bear in mind that the prices they project ARE NOT retail prices but normally lots of 1000. Craig

I was going to pick up a cheap e2160, which overclocks very well, just to get me by, but could'nt resist this for an xtra 85 bucks or so. I've heard the 45nm quads should be better OC'ers and run cooler - lets hope.Off to find the right MB - I was hoping the X38's would be out by now, but not till Oct 10th - so we'll have to look for a reasonable P35 for the interim. I'm leaning towards the Abit IP35-E for 69.99, then go to 2nd gen X38 next year.Regards, KendallDell 8400 3.2 GHZ H.T.3GB 533 DDR2X800XT 256MB/Catalyst driver - 7.1's6x AA/16x HQ A/FDiamond Xtreme/Logitech X-530'sDual Monitor: Dell 2405/1905CH Yoke/Pedals - Saitek Throttle Regards, Kendall 7800X3D/G.B. September 28, 200718 yr Kendall, "I found an e6750 for $169.99 and couldn't resist." Could you tell me where to find this deal on the e6750? The best I can find at any of the major online retailers is about twentyfive bucks higher (USD). Ditto for using pricewatch and pricegrabber. Is it retail or OEM? FWIW, I recently bought an Abit IP-35 Pro which I'd recommend highly. It will be good for Penryn and you may not find the few extra features of the X38 to be much of an improvement, unless your needs are somewhat esoteric. Thanks, - Lee

Should be here by tomorrow, but still haven't decided on a MB. Either the MSI Neo2-FR, Abit IP 35-e, Abit Ip35 or a Gigabyte P35 DS3L - anyone with some input on any of these boards? Thanks. September 28, 200718 yr Hi Kendall, I found that Fry's/Outpost deal on the hardocp forums, but as you say they're sold out. I signed up for their newsletter and will keep checking back, just in case the deal reappears again. It's definitely the best price I've heard of on the 6750. I have a feeling that more deals will appear as the Penryn release grows closer. Regarding mobos, if I had not found an incredible bargain on the Abit IP-35 Pro I would have bought the Gigabyte P35 DS3R, which can be had for under $130 if you wait for a deal. I realize it may be a bit more than you want to spend but it's a great board and I've heard very few negative things about it. If you have any interest in the IP-35 Pro, there's a thorough review on the front page of Hardocp.com. At the moment, it's definitely a more expensive option at around $165 though. Good luck choosing your motherboard. If you can find a good P35 model, you may decide that you don't even need an upgrade to the X38 when it hits the street -- the P35 is really very good in its own right. Best regards, - Lee

I agree the time is coming for good deals on the Core2's with Penryn around the corner - hope you find what your lookin for. I still haven't decided on my MB. I've considered the Abit Pro, but am trying to keep the costs down, yet futureproof as best as I can (besides I can be frugal at times :7.)Out of the 3 I'd mentioned I'm leaning towards the Gigabyte just because of the stability. Abit's are having that double boot issue along with some others and while there's nothing complex about flashing bio's, I don't like the idea of doing alot of it just for stability sake. Besides, it would rob me of valuable time and enjoyment tweaking FSX, if ya know what I mean....I also like the value of that Msi Neo Fr2 because it has the Ich9R and crossfire compatibility for a few xtra bucks, but the thing is I don't raid and doubt I'd ever use crossfire.....so an Ich9 board should do just fine. Oh well, I guess I'll have to decide by the weekend and get something ordered, hey. Thanks again,Best regards,Kendall Regards, Kendall 7800X3D/G.B.
