October 9, 200718 yr My mobo (as usual) set my memory timings to higher than defaultI have Corsair XMS2 2x1GB PC6400 ramsposed to run 4-4-4-12 cas 4And cpuz and mobo say its 5-5-5-12 2T, clock says 750mhz...should that be higher? I don't really understand DDR2 RAM...this is my first time with it...Thanks for any help! | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
October 9, 200718 yr Are you talking about on your AMD A64 platform? If so, then I would start by setting the timings to what the ram is supposed to run at.If you want to try some mem tweaks with the A64 then you can start with trying a 1T command rate which should help you in FS a little.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
October 9, 200718 yr Author oops, yeah I upgraded to:AMD 6000+Foxconn mobo2GB Cosair ramArctic Freezer 64 coolerAnd on the corsair site and newegg it said it should be 4-4-4-12....cause its CAS4.... Is it alright to change it in BIOS?and also, what value does 750mhz pertain to? I thought the PC26400 ram is DDR2 800??? | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
October 9, 200718 yr I think you will find those corsairs are set up in the SPD so that by default they are at 5-5-5-15. That way, when you first boot your MB, it will start with the default volts, which on my MB was set to 1.8v. On the corsair site, I think they say that the 4-4-4-12 is only tested with volts at 2.1v, so you should probably bump it up in the BIOS and then try the 4-4-4-12 settings in manual mode.I'm not sure how RAM speed is set up on the AM2 boards. On the Intel C2D the FSB clock is multiplied by 2 to get the RAM DDR2 speed, but there is generally also a memory speed divider with allows memory to run at some fraction above or below FSB clock. Sometimes it also refers to the 1066 or 1333 strap, which are based on FSB clocks of 266 or 333. Maybe an AMD/AM2 guru can tell you how that is done on your Foxconn.scott s..
October 9, 200718 yr Don't worry about the timings. The difference in performance between ram set at 4-4-4-12 and 5-5-5-12 will be only noticeable by counting milliseconds in a SuperPi run. In other words, it's purely geeky fun (and great fun it is!). This ram timing difference will provide no perceivable difference in real world performance. A CPUZ ram speed annunciation of 750mhz suggest an underlying buss speed of (750/2= ) 375 mhz. That's a significant O/C already. If this is 1) An AMD rig 2) You're not really sure what's going on3) And everything's running OK, your absolute Best Bet might be to just leave it alone. Generally, AMD O/Cs are hardly worth messing with.
October 10, 200718 yr I would not worry about the timings. EXCEPT for the command rate which I would move to 1T, and be done with it.2T --> 1T should help in FSX. The other, 5-5-5-12 to 4-4-4-12, I doubt will make any difference in the sim.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
October 10, 200718 yr Author I was going to ask about that.....is 1T safe? And with whatever settings? Or set the timings back to auto? | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
October 10, 200718 yr It's all "safe" in that you are not going to blow anything up. I mean, worst case is that your machine becomes unbootable, and then you must pull the BIOS reset jumper. If your motherboard does not have a BIOS reset jumper, then you should not be tweaking memory timings with that motherboard. So make sure you know where your BIOS reset jumper is BEFORE doing any memory timing tweaks. That's true of any mem timing changes and not limited to command rate.2T to 1T should not cause a problem but it should give you 5-10% boost in frame rate on an A64 platform. I am not sure if your 6000+ still counts for an A64 platform though. :) You sellout. :)RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
