Damaged USB wire

Featured Replies

Oldest excuse in the book, but true.....My dog ate through my USB cable to my CH pedals. Obviously, replacing the pedals is too costly. Does anyone know or have a link to a good guide on repairing USB cable? There is good wire on either side of the the chew.

I'm no electrician, but can't you just splice the torn cable end back on the cable matching wire colors? Strip the wires clean and reconnect them. If you have a soldering iron you can solder them back together and use some shrink tube (use with a hair dryer works :D) to cover the split. Make sure each wire, if its bare, is protected from contacting the others. The USB connector is typically molded in if I'm not mistaken so it won't be easy to connect the wires back on the USB connector.Typically on the connector end the pins are like this:Pin 1 - Red +5vPin 2 - White Data -Pin 3 - Green Data +Pin 4 - Black Ground Some other info:http://pinouts.ru/Slots/USB_pinout.shtml

If you can splice the cable as Scott suggests I would go that route, even if you splice the new cable Bob mentions onto to your existing one.I have had my CH pedals apart twice and I hope it's a long time before I have to do it again x( They are easy to take apart but a pain to put back together.Good luck.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I may use both techniques. Try and do the home repair and have the replacement USB cable on order in case it does not go so well :)Interesting note on the fact the pedals are so hard to put back together. It looks like I will only have to remove the bottom panel and not fuss with anything except plugging in the new cord. Any tips on how to make it less frustrating?
