November 29, 200718 yr Hi All,Just got a new puter for Christmas which Mrs. Claus says I can't use until then. (she's no fun). It comes equipped with two 500GB hard drives. It also is preloaded with Windows Vista Home Premium.I've read of some complaints about using FSX with Vista so I'm a little leary of it. My question is would it be feasible to install Windows XP on the second drive and load FSX on each drive to see how they compare and use the one that performs better. Is there any problem of having two operating systems on the same machine as long as they are on separate drives? Is there any particular thing I should be aware of in doing this?Any advice would be greatly appreciated.Jim
November 29, 200718 yr First of all, FSX runs just fine under Vista. I've had zero issues. As far as installing XP after Vista, it can be done but it will be a bit difficult if your not very comfortable with a PC. Conditions: you have installed Vista and now you want Xp in the second boot, and when you do so , your Vista isnt detected anymore, so now you either format your Drives and install again, or you repair Vista and thats ok,But you can run both in Dual boot without formatting,As vista is installed, you install Windows Xp in X:> (X is the drive of your Choice) (may be D: , E: etc)now your comp. restarts in XP without showing Vista, dont worry just restart your COmp. and boot from VIsta CD/DVD whatever you have, repair your installation and now your VISTA boots up, without Showing Xp, but nothing to worry, Just Place your Vista DVD/CD int he drive in VISTA and now go to start menu, all programs , accessories , right click on command prompt and click on run as administratornow type these commands :Use Bootsect.exe to restore the Windows Vista MBR and the boot code that transfers control to the Windows Boot Manager program. To do this, type the following command at a command prompt: Drive:boot Bootsect.exe
November 29, 200718 yr There's a much easier way of doing it then editing with BcdEdit, which is what I do.After you create your WinXP OS, like you said, you will lose access to Vista. There is a program called vistabootpro, that you can run on XP itself via a GUI, that will setup the dual boot for you. Saves a lot of steps, and works great. It's free and you can get it here!http://www.vistabootpro.org/ Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
