Geforce 6800GT to ATI 1950 Pro (AGP)

Featured Replies

Hi, will I notice a improvment in performance with a Radeon ATI 1950 Pro AGP card? I dont have enough money to afford a new rig so Im thinking if upgrading to the best AGP card out there. Thanks,Bill

I personally wouldn't do that...Yeah the ATI card is a little better....but I'd just save up for a new system....

True, but I would not be able to get a new system for another year and a half at worst cause. I can spend 150 dollars for this card and bring some improvment. Would you agree? Thanks,Bill

It is, of course, critical to specify at what particular settings you are running. The common belief that FS is "CPU limited" probably should be modified to, "at certain settings . . ." It would be real easy to set up FS to run at the highest res possible, with max AA/AF etc, and have it suddenly become . . ."GPU limited", where lower and lower graphics settings suddenly flips the situation to "CPU limited".I have lots of addons running, PMDG 737s, FSG mesh, ActiveCamera, ASv6, FlightDeck Companion, etc, and find the Radeon card offers higher performance than my 6800GTOC, in some games over 50% improvement. In FS I would say I am running maybe 20% better overall.I am using the Omega Drivers that included a workaround for AGP cards allowing them to benefit from performance enhancement in the ATI 7.10 catalyst drivers. With the x1950 Pro AGP the ATI 7.10 drivers don't work reliably, and so the Omega's solve this. Further, ATI Tray Tools is a much leaner application interface with the driver, so one does not need to use Catalyst Control Center at all. Then . . . I realized my old BFG had a lifetime warranty! Contacted them and they kindly sent me a brand new 7800GS with DDR3 memory as well. I have not done anything other than made sure it worked. It could be for sale since I already bought the ATI card. Or I could keep it for a back up, but that is kind of a waste.Noel
