Memory usage?

Featured Replies

I have just been playing around with MEMSTATUS. It shows what System RAM and Video RAM is being used by the computer at a given time.I noted that, while flying a complex addon a/c, about 80% of my system RAM was being used - but only a small amount of Video RAM (about 20%) was being used.It also showed that my available video RAM was actually more than I have installed on the vid card - but that my usage of system RAM as reported by MEMSTATUS was more that that being reported by the WindowsXP Task Manager.Has anybody got any comments to make regarding all this. It appears to me that an amount of system RAM is being allocated for use as Video RAM - when it is not really needed because of the low amount of Vid RAM actually being used. But does it matter anyway?? I don't have any problems with the sim - runs nicely except for some micro-stutters when it appears to be searching/obtaining something from the Harddrive.Barry

I asume you are using an AGP card, if you are, there is in your bios setup a config for AGP Aperture size, this sets the amount of avaliable pc memory for the AGP video card to use. MEMSTATUS adds this to your videocard memory and sees it all as one as does windows. You can change it in the bios. It may affect perfomance so play with it.

Memstatus reports 512 MB of video memory on my video card although it only has 256 MB on board. No idea why, but I have trouble believing video memory usage if it cannot get the memory size right.
