Newbie Dual Monitor Question

Featured Replies

Folks, see my system specs in the signature below.Am running FSX in DX9 mode and not DX10 preview.Have two displays; LG 22 inch and HP 19 inch.Normal applications can be taken to the HP (the second display) no problem.Start up FSX in full screen mode.FSX loads, loads scenery, etc. etc. and then goes into an "on again, off again" mode. Screen goes dark, then cockpit shows. Screen goes dark, then cockpit shows... you get the picture (or not).Am running two different resolutions; 1680 on the main display and 1280 on the secondary. All other settings in FSX remain the same for the two.Have the latest NVidia drivers (25).Any hints or help out there?

That happened to me. Alt enter to window it, then alt enter again. See if that fixes it.

Nick,Nope. Full screen to windowed mode and back does not resolve the problem. Go to windowed mode full time and undock the various gaugues, FMC's etc, and it work fine. In full screen mode, FSX alternates between viewing cockpit and black screen. Set both displays to same resolution, and that didn't help.

Tom- My situation is not specific to your problem (FS9 on triple views/mons under WinXP) but for what it may or may not be worth- Full Screen simply does not work for me. Very strange things go bump in the night when I try it- but Windowed mode is rock steady.Alex Reid

Tom,Let me chew on this. I had the EXACT problem, but I can't remember what I did to fix it... Let me go watch a movie, and I'l lthink about it. Things just "come to me" while watching moveis for soem reason lol!

Hi Tom,I always switch to window mode before I exit FSX. Then when I start FSX, It loads the appropriate screens on each monitor in window mode, and then I switch to full screen and fly.I was having a lot of quirky problems moving panels when in full screen, so I switched to doing it in windows. I was also getting a CTD when I would exit in full screen.I have since added another video card, and another monitor, so I have three screens. The VC on the main upper monitor, cockpit gauges on the lower centre monitor, and the GPS on the lower left monitor. I have another monitor for a moving map on the lower right that is on another networked computer.Bill

Me too. Identical issue. In my case, it would never run in full screen. Windowed ran OK. It looked - for all the world - like a bad Vcard. However it ended up that my ol' trusty 6600GT just was not up to the FSX, full screen challenge. 2 RMAs (and a Very understanding XFX tech group) finally proved the point to me. This is likey your current problem. However watch out for p-a-r-t 2 of this drama. With my new system another symptom has started. I got an 8400GS as a place holder 'til recently. That card would simply blank in full screen. Again, windowed ran OK. My current 8800GT finally runs the sim in full screen. But even still, there are times it will blank All the screens as it attempts to load a full screen session and only a reboot will recover the system.I'm running 2 different res monitors too (two 19s and a 42). I find it (seems?) helpful to delete the .cfg file. Next choose the 42 as the primary monitor. Then start the sim and let the 'cfg rebuild as the sim loads onto the 'big' monitor. Once the .cfg 'settles' onto one monitor, it seems that switching monitors is just asking for trouble. This has happened through 2 driver updates. I'm using their beta now with the same intermittent results. I'm also running with a 'loaner' 400 watt PS. I'll be watching for any change when I get my main Silverstone 600 watter back online next week. That could be part of the problem too.

Tom,Not much help for ya...Vista Ult. 32bit, no joy w/2 x 24" Dell 2407's, 1920x1200, FSX SP2, 8800GTX, 25's. I can go to windowed mode and move panels etc., but hitting Alt-Enter again kills 'em. No CTD or anything, (the newer drivers got rid of the blinky thing for me though), just another reason I'm happy with FS9 (same dual-boot rig, XP Pro, no problems at all with dual-mon). And since I also don't really care for Vista I may install the 64bit version (both OS on seperate drives as are FS9/FSX). I guess for the cash for Ultimate it's uhmmm, nice that both versions are included ;-)jb[a href=http://exmixer.com/]Windows utility links/FS9/FSX stuff[/a]Falcon Northwest Mach VIntel C2D Extreme X6800EVGA 680i4 GB Corsair Twin2Xx2048-8500C5BFG 8800GTXDual-boot XPPro/Vista Ult.Full specs in the link above on the FS page link there.
