January 29, 200818 yr Hi, I was checking a possible upgrade for my current CPU (E6600 @ 2.4ghz) and I came up with this page at new egg: http://www.newegg.com/Store/BrandSubCatego...CPUs-ProcessorsLooking at the specs on that page, apparently, the E8400 looks better than my current CPU.. so anyone could explain to me if that is tru and if so, why it is cheaper? Thanks for any help.Joselito Sousa - SBGR - FS9 ALWAYSSao Paulo - Brazilhttp://www.smart.dj/imagens/forum_avsim.jpgVista BusinessASUS P5W DH DELUXE CORE 2 DUO E6600 @ 2.40GHzRadeon X1950 PRO - Cat 7.9 Corsair XMS2 Xtreme - 2 GB (CL5 - 1.9 V)PSU ANTEC 500WDUAL DVI Samsung 19" 940BF
January 30, 200818 yr Yes E8400 outstrips E6600 rather easily. More cache, faster clock, and 45nm vs. 65nm. I don't know why it is cheaper, can someone else answer that? January 31, 200818 yr It is newer and only requires 2 CPU chips instead of 4...Should be cheaper, no? Bert

January 31, 200818 yr >It is newer and only requires 2 CPU chips instead of 4...>>Should be cheaper, no?But...An E6600 only has 2 chips also...I'm sure it's a combo of vendor pricing and supply.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
