January 30, 200818 yr HelloI have an old computer that I want to upgrade to FS9 max out sliders. Don't need it to run FSX as I have another computer that does that fine.My current specs are (on this machine are):AMD Athlon XP 24002 GHz1 GB of RAMNvidia 6600Windows XPWhat are your suggestions for upgrade? Many thanksRegardsEd
January 30, 200818 yr FS is cpu dependant--so Faster cpu, that's mainly it. You should be ok with the 6600 card; it will bottleneck a modern cpu, but for FS9, not to the extent that you couldn't run max sliders.I am not sure if your motherboard can support the modern cpu's but any of the low-end (not low-low end) AMD or Intel offerings will allow FS9 at max sliders with your setup.Low-Low end would be the Celerons and the like. Don't get one of those. I'm talking low end MAINLINE cpu's.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
January 30, 200818 yr IMHO, pick up a C2 e2180 along with a Abit Ip35E or Gigabyte Ds3l MB, 2GB Pc-6400 Ram and port VC and HD over to new rig. Easy overclock to 3.0-3.2 GHZ and will cost you between $180 - $200. You will come very close to maxing sliders and get more bang for the buck as opposed to any other upgrade. Hope it helps.Regards, Kendall#1: [email protected]/Coolermaster HyperTX2 Gigabyte P35-DS3L 4GB Crucial Ballistix Tracers PC6400 Seagate 250GB 7200.10 SATA2 Gigabyte X800XT -Cat 6.12's CH Yoke/Pedals/Saitek Throttle Dual Monitor: Dell 2405/1905 #2: Dell 8400 3.2 H.T. 3GB PC4200 Diamond Xtreme/Logitech X-530's Regards, Kendall 7800X3D/G.B.
