Default Flight - FSX, Acceleration, Vista Ultimate

Drat!!That magic guy never showed up.I remember messing with the permissions folder, and ended up just turning off UAC.The only other thing I can think of to do is to turn off Norton, and any other security programs and do an FSX repair. You can start it from Control Panel or from DVD 1. Where is that guy that knows how to fix this?Bob

Tried disabling Norton 360 - no difference.Yes, where is Mr Fixit? I've helped solve a lot of people's problems in my time, and when I get one that doesn't respond to a bludgeon, everyone (except thee and me, and a couple of other kind hearted people) stay away in droves!

John,It's not that they're staying away; you're situation appears to be unique. There has to be something different about your setup that's effecting the outcome of saving flights. Either in your Documents folder permissions where, by default, FSX saves them or possibly in the way Norton is interacting with the OS. You said you've disabled it, but is it really disabled, if you know what I mean? It could be interferring with the OS enough to not allow the changes needed to save a flight. On my system with Vista Ultimate x64, permissions in the Flight Simulator X Files folder under Documents are still default where I, as the user, don't have full control enabled and the flights save just fine. I never changed any user or system permissions in that folder at all. But I do have UAC turned off. Regards,Jim Karn

JohnI only have lowly Home Basic, but I don't recall any problems with Ultimate. I installed FSX before I turned off UAC but never had any problems with saved flights. Look in DocumentsFlight Simulator X Files. There should be at least a Previous Flight file. The sim always saves the last flight. If not than there surely seems to be a saved flight problem. It is possible that Norton interfered with the installation of FSX. I have heard of that. I have used Norton and Macafee in the past. They are good programs, but very intrusive. I use a couple of free programs now and have no problems so far. I suggested turning off Norton so that it could not interfere with an FSX repair. I have done the repair with good results. This is not brain surgery, there must be a fix.Bob

sargeski noted in another thread that recorded flights are stored in the log book. I wonder if your log book is corrupt. Log book can even keep the sim from starting. You can rename your logbook or remove it from the flight simulator X file, start the sim and test it.Bob

I think you might be on to something, Bob, because my log book has never shown any entries. I wasn't too bothered by it, but now I do wonder. Next task is to find where they store the thing! I'm on it!

logbook is in documentsflight simulator X files. There are downloads from avsim to open it, edit it, or restore it.Bob

I've tried deleting it, and that makes absolutely no difference, which makes me wonder whether FSX is actually finding it.FSXLog finds nothing wrong with it, and although it shows 2 (old) flights logged, MSX shows an empty log file. When it's deleted, BTW, the flight saved vby FSUIPC still shows up, so I'm wondering just where that is stored(?)Making progress, at least, even if it is only finding more symptoms of trouble!

Norton 360 was loaded after I installed FSX - I was using a freebie anti-virus proggy at the time!

When I installed FSUIPC4, I had to create a folder called Modules in the main FSX folder. I just looked in there and there are 8 Fsuipc files there. One is a log file. There are also user guides. Maybe those will help. As I have said, I don't use FSUIPC so I don't know much about it It's not in the Simconnect DLL. any more. Is your's conflicting somehow. Do you have both SDK updates. My menu didn't wor correctly untill I got both. I'm thinking more and more that a repair is the way to go.Bob

You must have the registered FSUIPC4, as it has an auto save function. It shouldn't, but I wonder if it is interfering with regular saved flights. You might check in their forum to see if there are any problems. You might also see if you can turn off auto save in the FSUIPC options file.Bob

No, I don't have a registered copy of FSUIPC, and this problem started a long time before I installed FSUIPC - it was only a few days ago that I had reason to install FSUIPC.

I d/l FSUIPC4 about 10 days ago - before I loaded it, and I have SP1 and Acceleration installed - with Acceleration, you have to uninstall SP2 before Acceleration will load. I have both SDKs installed - or rather, I have installed the SDKs and the two upgrades.I don't like the idea of a total reinstall too much, but it might be the only way in the long run. I'd sure like to resolve the issue before I resort to that, though. It's annoying me!

Interesting, because just now I was reading The FSUIPC4 guide and it says auto save is for regitsered users. Guess that's not auto save.I'm not talking about a reinstall, I'm talking about a repair. It doesn't delete anything, per say, but it does return the sim to RTM. It is much simpler and shorter than reinstall. That would be the time to see if saved flights works. Then you may have to reinstall SPs, and ACELL. I did the repair before I had the SPs. It did not delete the few addon planes I had. You can start the repair from control pannelprograms and features, Or from DVD 1.
