Very Odd Google Bug

Can someone help me?I have this weird situation where if I clean out my cookies/cache from Firefox, I can use google, or access www.google.combut after a few minutes....I cannot access it anymore. It won't work on IE or FirefoxIt's only on my PC, because my wife's PC accesses google no problems, and we're on the same networkI thought it might be spyware related, but ran a scan and no objects, just a few tracking cookies...If I try to access google the page just times out. Anyone have any clues as to what might be going on???????

RyanIs you computer disconnecting from the net? Are you hard wired or wireless? I have a Mac, a Vista, and 4 XPs on my home network. Some were hard wired and some wireless. I had problems untill I changed them all to wireless. Even more strange; my phone and my router were on the same frequency. Every time the phone rang I would lose my internet. Change of router freq. took care of that. You could try the connection repair function in Network Connections. Disconnect your wifes computer and see what happens. I use more than one kind of spyware tool. They all catch different things. Doesn't seem possible that deleteing cookies could kill your internet. I've had good luck with Ccleaner both as a junk remover(it's not for spyware)and a registry cleaner(though there are better). But it is free.Just some things to try.Bob

see it's not losing the net, it's only specific to google.comAnd only on my PCAnd once I clear the cache, I can use it fine for about 15-20 minutes. It's quite strange

I have this too Ryan and I was going to post something about it tonight - wierd. In my case, when I can't connect to Google, I notice IE6 says "connecting to 64.105.53.126 in lower left corner of the browser window. This has been happening for the last 3-4 days. Eventually, a page not displayed will show up. I have traced that addy to Covad Communications in San Jose. Obviously no response on a ping. This only occurs to me with Google Web, if I set my home page to any other Google or whatever, I connect all the time. This "redirect" or "browser hijack" only occurs sporadically and happens on all 3 of my systems. I have obviously blocked all traffic for this addy in my firewall.I have scanned and scanned for any malware/viri etc using Spybot, AdAware, Webroot, AVG, TrendMicro, Panda, Hijack This, Rootkit Revealer - NOTTA, ZIP. I called my IP Charter and they haven't heard of anything. I read a small blurb about resetting Linksys routers and tried it - still happens. I suspect if you're having this too then it's possibly network thing somewhere?? This Covad is a DSL/VOIP provider. We both are in MN, what service do you use. I know one thing, it's been a nuisance that I am getting sick trying to figure out. Anyone else with this issue? Edit: talked to another Charter Tech who said others have reported similar things and it's "being looked into", which obviously means zilch coming from anyone at that wretched company.......... - he also wouldn't say what the problem might be. At least I now know it has nothing to do with my rigs - it's been a head scratcher for a few days. • 2 weeks later...

I am having the same problem - and I'm a Charter customer, too. I'm in Missouri. This is definitely a problem on Charter's side. Their DNS server has probably been hacked. You can get around this by modifying your hosts file. Your hosts file overrides your DNS settings.Go to start-->runtype in "notepad c:windowssystem32driversetchosts"This will open your hosts file in notepad. Then add this line:74.125.19.103 www.google.comMake sure there is a tab, not a space, between the ip address and www.google.com.save the file.navigate to www.google.comThe home page should load. For the gentleman whose wife's computer was still working, her DNS for google.com was probably still cached. If you do an ipconfig /flushdns I bet it would stop working.
