Newbie Builder Help Please

Hello,I am rebuilding an older computer as practice for building a new system.I have stripped the case down to the power supply only and have purchased an inexpensive MB/CPU for practice. Is there an order (step by step) to go through to get the system up and running with basic capability?Maybe there is a tutorial for the process. Thanks in advance,Ron Sagel

I'm guessing you also have a hard drive in there. You can use the old one to see if it fires up. Otherwise you need a new drive and a copy of Windows.Bob

i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.

It aint hard.Install power supply into case. Install motherboard into case.Install CPU. It should have a pad on bottom of cpu heatsink this is a thermal compound that helps get the heat from the cpu to the heatsink as nothing is perfectly flat. If you remove the heatsink you will have to get some thermal compound from a pc shop and some isopropohol alchohol to clean the CPU and heatsink as it leaves no residue.Install hard drive and CD rom note that if they are the old IDE type and both on same lead , then one must be set as master and one as slave if the are sata it dosnt matter.( need cd rom to install windows or any programme for that matter ). Connect case leads to motherboard, iE PSU switch, HD led, USB connector, also power supply connectors, read motherboard manual it has changed slightly. Once that is all done recheck everyting. If you have a graphics card make sure if it needs a psu connected to it then connect a psu lead to it. Most new cards require there own PSU connector. Once all double checked, connect monitor, keyboard and mouse and turn on. put windpws cd into cd rom and install windows, once that is done install motherboard drivers off motherboard cd. If it wont boot from CD then restart pc and hit DEL key that will take you to bios and make sure that cd is set to first boot device. Hope that helps.

HelloThank you for the great help. Cheers,Ron Sagel

Some recommend, and I find it easier, installing the cpu and heatsink onto the motherboard before installing it in the case. Packaging for the motherboard usually includes a foam pad on the underside which can be utilized to lay the motherboard on a table to install the cpu.ArtBiostar TF560-A2+, Athlon 64X2-6000+, 4GB RAM, Geforce 8800GTS-320MB, 500W PSU, 250GB HD, FSX(SP1-SP2), Audigy SE sound, Vista Home Premium 32 bit, CH Yoke & Pedals, 22" WS LCD monitor
