Unable to get Full Screen using Alt Enter

Featured Replies

Hi AllI am "downsizing" my set up and have removed my TH2Go box and reverted to using one monitor (Acer 22" Wide).Have been running in "windowed mode" whilst using TH2Go, but now I cannot get the display to change to full screen after pressing Alt and Enter. The curor just shimmers and the screen freezes. Graphics card is nvidia 9600GT.Is there a setting I need to change. I have nvidia control panel set to "one display" resolution at 1024 *762.Thanks for any help.Bill

How about when selecting full screen from the view pull-down menu? What driver are you using for the video card?ArtBiostar TF560-A2+, Athlon 64X2-6000+, 4GB RAM, Geforce 8800GTS-320MB, 500W PSU, 250GB HD, FSX(SP1-SP2), Audigy SE sound, Vista Home Premium 32 bit, CH Yoke & Pedals, 22" WS LCD monitor

Art - same thing happens when using pull down menu. Vid card driver 175.16Bill

So it appears, basically, that you are unable to run FSX in full screen mode. You could download the latest certified driver at the nVidia driver download website and install it. It is 178.13. Also, check your full screen resolution setting in FSX. I assume that it should be 1680x1050 (native resolution for your monitor).ArtBiostar TF560-A2+, Athlon 64X2-6000+, 4GB RAM, Geforce 8800GTS-320MB, 500W PSU, 250GB HD, FSX(SP1-SP2), Audigy SE sound, Vista Home Premium 32 bit, CH Yoke & Pedals, 22" WS LCD monitor

>I have nvidia control panel set to "one display" resolution at 1024 *762.I went back to your original post and noticed your monitor resolution setting. Apparently, you can't read the monitor's native resolution any better than I or have performance problems. I found 1440x900 a good compromise for the setting in the nVidia control panel, but I set it in FSX as previously stated. If you get the problem resolved and have performance problems, different resolution settings in FSX can be tried to reach a full screen compromise.ArtBiostar TF560-A2+, Athlon 64X2-6000+, 4GB RAM, Geforce 8800GTS-320MB, 500W PSU, 250GB HD, FSX(SP1-SP2), Audigy SE sound, Vista Home Premium 32 bit, CH Yoke & Pedals, 22" WS LCD monitor

ArtThank you for your continued support and interest. I have got my problem solved. My FS9.cfg file had become corrupted. Once it was rebuilt all was well again. I was lead to this solution when my flight controls also started acting up. Thanks again.Bill

Interesting. Perhaps you had to get rid of the TH2Go box settings.Enjoy.ArtBiostar TF560-A2+, Athlon 64X2-6000+, 4GB RAM, Geforce 8800GTS-320MB, 500W PSU, 250GB HD, FSX(SP1-SP2), Audigy SE sound, Vista Home Premium 32 bit, CH Yoke & Pedals, 22" WS LCD monitor

ArtNot quite "out of the woods yet". I maybe posted in haste. After rebuilding the FS9.cfg (not FSX) the sim started in Full Screen and I immediately posted to you. However Alt + Enter still gives me a "hang up" whilst using the pull down menu seems to work OK. Interested in your comments re resolution settings as I haven't a clue what monitors native res. is or what I should use. All I am aware is that FS9 is now somewhat unstable whereas before it was rock solid. Changing planes can cause a freeze now - never happened before. To add to the complications I have also ditched my CH Yoke and Pedals and replaced them with a SaitekST 290 Pro joystick and attempting to run them through a registered version of FSUIPC. Ahh computers and age just don't mix!!!Bill

"---Ahh computers and age just don't mix!!!"-------------Bill- at heading toward 77- I'm in full agreement!Check Control Panel/Display/Settings. If you are now using only one mon, the monitor schematic here should show only one mon- with the resolution specified. I'm wondering if the TH2Go left some artifact here in monitor settings. It may be you need to set this up again, then hit "Apply" and then restart the 'puter.(I'm running triple mons/triple views- via 2 GPUs and Full Screen does NOT work in this mode.)Alex Reid

>Interested in your comments re resolution settings as I haven't a >clue what monitors native res. is or what I should use. If you have an Acer 22" widescreen monitor, I would expect the native resolution to be 1680x1050x32 and would use this as my full screen display setting in FS9 (32 bit instead of 16 to eliminate sky color banding*). That resolution makes everything kind of small for us old people to read our email, so I set the resolution to 1440x900 in the nVidia Control Panel (not too small, not too big). The control panel setting will apply to FS9 in windowed mode.* It's interesting that 16 bit color in FSX does not cause the problem experienced in FS9.ArtBiostar TF560-A2+, Athlon 64X2-6000+, 4GB RAM, Geforce 8800GTS-320MB, 500W PSU, 250GB HD, FSX(SP1-SP2), Audigy SE sound, Vista Home Premium 32 bit, CH Yoke & Pedals, 22" WS LCD monitor

Just an update as I don't like it when guys have their problems solved and then just disappear. Well things are running much smoother for me now. Changed my res to 1440*900.It was originally 3072*7xx streched over 3 monitors so I just assumed it would be 1024*7xx when using one monitor!Still get lock ups when keying in Alt +Enter but can avoid that by using the drop down menu. Flight controls (well the Saitek ST290 is doing all the work at the monent)have also settled down. Enjoying simming again. So thank you guys for your help. (Keep going Alex I can't match you in years yet and I also always enjoy reading your posts).Bill

Bill- thanks for the kind words. Now that you are up and running again, could I entice you into plugging one of your (now) spare monitors into the other port of your video card? Then extend your desktop in Display/Settings to spread everything across both mons. It's not only invaluable in FS to achieve a wider view/horizon (plus a variety of open-available popups), but is remarkably useful for document composition, editing and photography work. I wouldn't be without a second mon- regardless of the simming benefits.Alex Reid

Well yes indeed Alex. As I sit here and type I have a "matching" 17"Acer sitting redundant beside the 22" Acer. I am going to plug it into the 2nd graphics card output as soon as I get things tidied up..(Currently I am making a LED panel to display Flaps,Gear position etc) I just hope it won't be a big hit on FPS. I intend to maybe put the FMC there or maybe FSNav.Bill

"----I have a "matching" 17"Acer sitting redundant beside the 22" Acer. I am going to plug it into the 2nd graphics card output----"-------------Bill- Right on!!! If you should opt for an FS 2nd view/90
