October 8, 200817 yr Hi, I have 4 monitors. 3 for external views (Forward-Left, Forward, and Forward-Right) plus one for main panel. The issue I have is that I see the engine nacelles (I am flying Baron 58) on the side views. So after having 3 monitors for external view, what I get at the end is two monitors with static views (forward view is Ok and clean). If I close the main panel, they dissapear, but then I don't have any instrument view.Is there any way to fix it and get 3 "clean" external views on the 3 monitors plus one instrument view on the other?THANKSI am using FS2004
October 8, 200817 yr Mdiaz- Short answer is Yes- using a HEX Editor, virtual artifacts- window frames, engine nacelles etc can be removed from secondary views.Search in this hardware forum for- virtual hex editor. That should lead to 2 threads from a year or two back- Multiple Monitor SetupRemoving Virtual Artifacts from 2D Views(See attached pic of the default Kingair with window frames removed in Views L/R Fwd/-----The other approach is to retain these elements but to reposition them in views L,R Fwd so they look natural. This is done in Panel config using the line-VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT(right)_EYE=x,y,zIf my memory serves me, x moves the artifact left or right, y moves it up or down and z rotates it.Experiment with small changes, save the file, then restart that flight. It is a trial and error process. I always print out the page from Panel Config first then make pencil notes of changes so I can backtrack if necessary. Some times it is a combination of x & y or Z.Have a look at the attached Baron pic where the engine nacelles are repositioned to suit the angles of my mons #2 @45
October 8, 200817 yr MAD- I should have also mentioned: the Hex editing solution means your landing lights will no longer work! I think there is a solution- try searching under "landing lights". ( I never pursued this, preferring to stick with the other "reposition" method.)Incidentally, the DreamFleet Baron has such realistic prop motion when you shut down an engine & then feather, that retaining the nacelles is really worthwhile. Adds a bit of spice when you trigger an engine out just after liftoff!!!Alex Reid
October 9, 200817 yr Hi again Alex, I am having an issue with the horizon alignment.I played with the third value of the FORWARD-RIGHT-DIR, I am using 52 degrees. I checked the size of a building on the 3 monitors and in the 2 borders and it is the same. So it works.I also adjusted the tilt angle, so I see the horizon and runways aligned. The issue I have is that when I climb or go down, the two side monitors are not aligned any more.Could you copy and paste your [views] section of the panel.cfg.I don't know to fix this.THANKS IN ADVANCEMAD-Miguel Angel Diaz- andMAD for MADRID, my city
October 9, 200817 yr Hi Miguel- I think the horizon misalgnment in roll and pitch is probably due to incorrect view angle shift for the right monitor. When you changed the third value of VIEW_FORWARD_RIGHT_DIR=, did you save the result, then restart that flight? You have to save each change to panel config. The Panel Config values I'm using for DreamFleet Baron are:VIEW_FORWARD_RIGHT_DIR=4.00,2.800,55.960VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT_DIR=6.00,2.800,50.500(All Z- View Shift values are same for all planes)but they won't necessarily work for you because they are calculated for my specific monitor screen widths and bezel widths.--------Post your main monitor SCREEN width and the width of the combined bezels separating the 2 views- I'll calc the exact angle correction for you. ( It's really simple but hard to explain!!) Try to measure to the nearest 1/8 of an inch or 2mm.Alex Reid
October 9, 200817 yr Thanks-the width is 437 mm, the width of one monitor bezel is 22, the width of the combined bezels separating the 2 views is 44 mm since all 3 monitors are identical. The Panel Config values I'm using for DreamFleet Baron are:VIEW_FORWARD_RIGHT_DIR=2.00,2.000,52.000VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT_DIR=2.00,2.000,-52.000THANKS AGAIN
October 10, 200817 yr Alex, I DID IT.I was using full windows, I changed into normal windows and adjusted as you said.At the end I also adjusted with the EYE option so I can see the nacelles just a little and the props.I have to leave now, because I have to travel this week end.Next Monday I will show you some pictures.THANKS A LOT.
October 10, 200817 yr Miguel- That's good news! Now with a triple wide horizon, watch your flying skills improve dramatically! (Imagine driving your car and the only view outside is through one monitor in front of the driver!)I've never been able to make multi monitors work in Full Screen- but there are simple ways of "hiding" title bars, menu and task bars so the result is just about the same as full screen.Looking forward to your pics.Alex Reid
October 18, 200817 yr I've messed around with multimonitor setups for awhile. I recently moved to FSX after a year long break from FS due to a dead video card. For FS2004 Full screen, in windowed mode you have to undock the left and right views (open the new window, right click, select undock). You can then move it to your left or right monitor. When all the windows are on the correct monitor hold alt then press enter to go to full screen mode. Also, for easy alignment, I've found a few tricks depending on what you want your zoom setting or your desired FOV (field of view) setting to be. I used the wideview program, so I don't remember exactly where the view settings are by default.Measure, like said above, the screen width and also measure the full monitor width. Then divide the monitor width by the screen width and you get something around 1.10. If you multiply 45 (which is the default, 1.00 zoom level field of view on your screen) by the 1.10 factor you get what the entire field of view from monitor edge to monitor edge should be. (your right, its hard to explain, but actually quite easy) I call this number the zoom multiplyerMy monitor screen width is 14 7/8 inches, monitor width is 16 4/8. 16 4/8
October 18, 200817 yr "-----The same trig methods can be used to match up monitors that aren't identical, like a 17" and a 19". I got it to work very well a few years back, but just am------"--------Hi Nate- I'm delighted to hear from another multi mon simmer. I don't quite understand why there's so few of us when the effect on flying skills and enjoyment of simming is so profound. Plus it really is simple! You mention different sized monitors. I use a 17 LCD turned @ 45
October 19, 200817 yr Hi AlexInteresting thread - I've used multi mons for some time, always in windowed mode. I was interested in your point that there are simple ways to hide the title bar of the windows. I've been able to reduce the size and re-colour, but never to hide 'em. What's the secret?Bud
October 19, 200817 yr Bud- I "hide" the title bars by colour change- the background to dark gray (black?) with dark green letters. After some experimenting, this seemed to be next best to invisibility. Task & Menu bars are truly hidden 'till needed.Alex ReidDreamFleet Bonanza @ Stewart BC- (can you see the title bars?)http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/193490.jpg
