October 21, 200817 yr Miguel- Here are my panel config settings for the DreamFleet Baron 58.The only changes from default are in VIEWS FWD L & R .But remember, these are for my monitors which have bezel separations between the views of 49 mm and 87 mm. My left mon is angled toward me @45
October 21, 200817 yr Thanks a lot.The issue is tha or I see a good view at the airport 8like in your picture) or I see the nacelles. And since I don't know which the realistic values (I looked in Google for a while) I asked your values.I will try and let you know.MAD
October 21, 200817 yr MAD- Sometimes when doing these Panel Config changes, you have to play with changes to a couple of the values. I usually print out Panel Config first, then note my changes in pencil so I can easily go back a little on one value, while perhaps increasing another. It's a trial and error process. If you go too far, you can end up placing the port engine/prop on the right monitor! And then you really get strange things happening! If I recall- in EYE, x+- moves the object laterally, y+- moves it up or down and z+- rotates it. It works for engines and window frames etc. (It's been awhile- I think I recall that the x plus or minus effect reverses between left and right monitors!)Alex Reid
October 23, 200817 yr Hey Daniel. Sorry if i'm a little late, I was out of town.According to this forum:http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/247975-28-quandryFSX relies heavily on a good processor. So for video cards, a high end one isn't totally necessary. If you can easily afford the 2 4780s those should be more than adequate to run 4 monitors, though you will have to reduce your settings to have it run at good frame rates. According to that thread above, there most likely won't be much difference between the 9800 and the 280. The quadro card is a little older, from what I understand, so it may help to have two newer cards, like the 4780sI have 2 8800gts cards, my processor is an Intel Q6600 which I've overclocked to 3.1ghz with 4gb of RAM at 850mhz. I have to have most of the scenery settings on the lower end of sliders when near cities or my frame rates drop to 10 or so when I have 3 displays and a 4th for instruments. I get better framerates with just 3 displays only and have to set it up similar to January's.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/193654.jpgWhat kind of processor do you have? Hope I wasn't to late to help your decision if you do take back the 9800, or maybe someone else could chime in with better understanding.
November 12, 200817 yr JanuaryI'm using FS2004 and trying to use your technique for multi-monitor bezel ompensation on the Boeing 737-400. I looked in the Aircraftb737_400panelpanel.cfg file and I do not have the lines VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT_WINDOWS=36VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT_ZOOM=1.000VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT_EYE=0.600, 0.000, 0.000VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT_DIR=6.000, -2.800, -53.260that you provided for Miguel's benefit (even though I have cockpit views looking forward and left 45 degs). Do I need to add these lines or is there something else I'm missing? Thanks in advancedelinks
November 12, 200817 yr Yes you can go ahead and add them to the panel.cfg file for the aircraft you wish to modify. You only need to add the info for the specific direction you wish to view, such as forward left or right or both.I wish they put these changeable items in by default, rather than making us hunt through the SDK or web forums to learn how to customize the views and settings.
November 12, 200817 yr Thank anoblenate for the reply.Where in the .cfg file do I add the lines, and what does VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT_WINDOWS=36 mean? I have the definition of VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT_DIR and the others are obvious. I also assume I must start the new section with | Views | ?Thankselinks
November 12, 200817 yr hmm, I'm not sure what the WINDOW=36 means. If there aren't any view settings in the panel.cfg simply put this anywhere in the .cfg file:[VIEWS]Then following that add the directions. If you simply want to change view direction and angle, add the VIEW_FORWARD_RIGHT_DIR and its value for which ever direction you want. Add VIEW_FORWARD_RIGHT_ZOOM setting to adjust the zoom amount, same with _EYE for adjust where the eyepoint is inside the aircraft. I'll have to do some searching to see what the _WINDOW setting does. I don't have that adjusted in my cfg files. For example, this is my default set up I used for 3 monitors:[VIEWS]VIEW_FORWARD_ZOOM=1.11VIEW_FORWARD_EYE=0VIEW_FORWARD_DIR=-7,0.0,0.0VIEW_FORWARD_RIGHT_ZOOM=1.11VIEW_FORWARD_RIGHT_DIR=1.500, 0.000, 45.000VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT_ZOOM=1.11VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT_DIR=1.500, 0.000, -45.000
November 12, 200817 yr Thank You once again anoblenateI believe WINDOW=36 must be an ID for VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT as they all seem to have unique numbers. I have been trying to get my three monitor set up so that I can use FORWARD_LEFT and FORWARD_RIGHT to expand my view of the horizon looking forward. If I use the standard NumLock 7 and 9 settings the horizon is misaligned during roll maneuvers. I assume NumLock 7 and 9 is equivalent to _DIR of +/- 45?If you (or anyone else) have an idea on how to compensate for the broken horizon when rolling, while supporting 3 monitors PLMK.Thankselinks
November 12, 200817 yr elinks- Broken horizon when rolling is corrected by increasing the z values in the Panel Config line VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT(right)=x,y,z.The default views l/r fwd normally are set at +-45
November 14, 200817 yr Thanks for the reply AlexI have added the [VIEWS] lines to my panel.cfg file for Forward, Left and Right Directions but still my horizon is broken straight lines (on the left and right) when pitched up or down. The left monitor horizon starts higher on the left side of the screen and ends lower on the right side of the screen when pitched down and visa versa when pitched up.values are similar to these:[VIEWS]VIEW_FORWARD_DIR=1.500, 0.0, 0.0VIEW_FORWARD_RIGHT_DIR=1.500, 0.000, 47.500VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT_DIR=1.500, 0.000, -47.500I am trying to get the three cockpit views L,F,R (on three identical monitors, flat along wall) to have a FOV of about 120 degrees and the horizon level between all three for small pitch angles. Right now they look like this when pitched down. (though not this pronounced) / / / ----------------thankselinks
November 14, 200817 yr Glad it's starting to come together. It gets frustrating trying to tweak it until it is just right. Again, I wish they made it easier. There's a few things you can try. The values following _DIR= are, from what I remember, pitch, bank, and heading. So you'll have to mess with both pitch and bank settings to get the horizon to be flat. I can't find the cfg file I had that worked on my old setup, but I think that's all I did to level things out. Also are a few tips for changing the field of view in earlier posts in this thread, such as my at #11 where you can adjust the zoom and the heading angle to further line things up.
November 14, 200817 yr Hi, elinks, I am a newbie on this, but it happens the same to me and I guess that IT IS CORRECT!!!Take into account that in the lateral monitor you DON'T HAVE A FORWARD VIEW but a LATERAL VIEW so when you go UP the horizon level has to tilt. For a better understanding, imagine that your are looking 90 degrees left, to the left wing direction, if you climb, the horizon level rotates comparing to the wing, so if you don't move the wing (we are fixed in the simulator) it is the horizon what moves.it is the same effect in the forward view, when you go UP/DOWN, the horizon line moves compared to you. This is what is happening with your lateral view at 45 degrees. For a perfect FORWARD view of bigger size, I think you need the Triple Head Matrox CardHope this helps.MAD
November 14, 200817 yr elinks-your z value of 47.5 seems low. What are your dimensions for-width of main mon image? & combined width of the bezels separating main from adjacent mon? Could you post these for me. Also, your x (height) setting seems low. Are you displaying full height views? When I have a full height view, x = approx 14.0Which plane are you setting up? Are you by any any chance using wide monitors? @ what resolution setting? Alex Reid
November 14, 200817 yr elinks- I just did a fast test in FS re horizon twist in pitch mode.Yes I get the same- outer horizons angle up in (steep) climb, down when descending- much to my surprise!I had never noticed this before since my outer views are only partial screen height with 2D popups below to extend the 2D panel across all 3 screens. As a result, these outer horizons largely disappear in significant pitch attitudes.I'm not sure how one can correct this with views being the full height of the screen. It is a phenomena relating to eye height versus image- try moving your eyes up or down when this occurs- the horizon on the centre mon shifts up/down in pitch and the outer horizons then have to twist to keep the whole horizon joined. My best suggestion for now is to physically raise your eyes in pitch up, slump yourself in pitch down! Just think of it as countering G Forces affecting your whole body!! Perhaps you have discovered a new FSim feature- G effects! As you go into a loop, G force makes your body slump and you then have to stretch up from the seat to maintain the same view. (if we could make all 3 screens go black at 6 Gs, we would really have something!!!)(Or blood red screens in the case of an inverted loop!)Alex Reid
