October 19, 200817 yr Hello there,Finally I have my setup up and running properly.4 monitors with two graphic cards.3 are for the external views, 1 for instruments.I followed Alex instructions and it works fine.I am getting 10 to 16 fps, what is reasonable for me.I tried to take some screenshots as I promised to Alex, but I am not succeeding, when I hit prtscreen, I always get the same monitor shot. This week I will try Nate advise.I am also interested in how to remove as much as possible windows frame, title bar,...THANKSMAD
October 19, 200817 yr hii would like to ask u how did r u connect 4 monitor and how many pc u are using and graphic cards number?i have 2 ati 4780 crossfire can i connect to them 4 monitors (1 pc)if yes plz can u tell me howthanx
October 19, 200817 yr Hi AlexThanks - I've got pretty much ther same. Sorry - I thought you'd come up with magic invisibility. I agree the way you have tyhem is the next best thing.Bud
October 19, 200817 yr Miguel- good to hear you've got the multi mons running.Re fps- do you have Frame Rate set to unlimited? Seems to help.Re screenshots- Hit Printscreen/Start/Paint/Edit/Paste/File/Save As Type(JPEG). I have a handy dandy little procedure to reduce any screenshot to AVSIM size limits (150KB). Takes all of 30 seconds with no extra editing software. Let me know if you want me to describe how.Re Hiding Title Bars- see my reply to "Bud" in prior post in this thread. You can remove window frames/engines etc from secondary views via a Hex Editor- Search the FSX forum for "Side views" for a thread started by KIKI- Feb05/2005 & added to by 3Green Feb 06/2005. Using this method you will lose your Landing Lights.Or- you can use Panel Config- VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT(right)_EYE=x,y,z to manipulate these artifacts and reposition them correctly. If I recall, +-x value shifts artifacts left or right, +-y moves them up or down and +-z rotates them. This is how I repositioned the Baron Engine Nacelles to suit the angle and tilt of my monitors. It's worth retaining the Baron engines because they have such realistic props when you kill an engine and feather the prop. Nacelles/props are a big part of Baron enjoyment.Alex Reid
October 19, 200817 yr Hi january,You refer to a 50% fps drop with 3 monitors. How many video cards do you have? Presumably more than 1? What is the effect on adding an additional video card to obtain a second monitor feed, vs. using the 2nd output on one video card, on fps? I', thinking of adding a second monitor (which is already avilable to me for use), but I'm so reluctant to lose frames :)Thanks, Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
October 19, 200817 yr "i would like to ask u how did r u connect 4 monitor and how many pc u are using and graphic cards number?"I have one PC with 2 x nVidia FX 5200 graphic cards. Each card has two outputs: RGB and DVI.My system is quite old but with FS2004 is running OK.MAD

October 19, 200817 yr Daniel- I have just a single 5 year old Athlon 1.8 PC and 2 GeForce FX5200 video cards.Do your graphics cards have 2 monitor ports? If so, connect another monitor there -(you might need a simple adapter connector), and then go to Control Panel/Display/Settings. If you see a schematic outline diagram showing both monitors, you are in business!Drag these outlines to represent the actual positions of your monitors- probably side by side. Then in the schematic, click on a mon & (below) set the monitor resolution you wish- repeat for the other mon using same resolution.Click on the schematic for the 2nd monitor- then at the bottom click the box- "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor".You should now be able to drag your mouse cursor from far left on one mon to far right on the other- as if it was one big desktop!!!Repeat these steps for additional monitors. You don't need identical monitors- they can be diiferent sizes and you can nicely mix CRT with LCD.Good luck- if you can get this far, we can lead you through the steps to set up Flight Sim for a WIDE HORIZON!!!Alex Reid
October 19, 200817 yr Alex, as promised, here is my screenshot.I need to make some fine tuning, but is working well thanks to you.MAD
October 19, 200817 yr Miguel- Thanks for the pic. As we say here- looks like you are on your way to the races! (Or in Madrid- to the bull fight!)Because the screenshot process deletes the bezels, the scenery alignment is distorted from what you actually see. If I am taking an extra nice screenshot I sometimes temporarily reset the panel config Z value to default, then play a bit with the screenshot alignments to get a perfect match between mons. (then reset P/Cfg for flying again)Keep experimenting with P/Cfg X value (height) till you get perfect alignment along the whole height of the views. For DF Baron comparison, my left height (x) is 6.0 and right is 4.0When you get it right, every mark including joints in the runway concrete will align perfectly.------Here is a simple method to neatly reduce screen shots for AVSIM and retain quality in the pic. (No editing software needed)In MY Pictures-Right click on the picture- gives a popupPoint to Send To- gives another popupClick on Mail Recipient- gives another popupClick on Show More Options (lower left)- expands the popupClick on either Medium or Large (I prefer Medium)Click OK which opens an Email form with your selected pic as a attachment- and nicely reduced for AVSIM !Drag the whole E mail form sideways so you can see the My Pictures page below-Drag the DATA in the Email Attachment line back to My Pictures and release it there. This drops the reduced pic back into My Pictures- all ready to post any time in AVSIM !!! Then delete the unused Email page.------I know- sounds complex. But after you've done it a couple of times it will take less than 30 seconds for each screenie!Alex Reid
October 20, 200817 yr hi januarythanx for replyingmy cards have 2 dvi port so the total is 4 but i really need to know how to connect 4 monitor 19 inch lcdi dont have experience i would like to know how to connect it should i crossfire my card together mean should i connect my 2 cards together and after that i shuld connect the for monitor (one monitor with one dvi )let me know plz
October 20, 200817 yr Daniel- I have no computer tech skills- as far as I know, just connect the additional monitor(s) to the unused ports on the GPUs. At least that's what I did with my GeForceFX5200 cards.I suspect that your cards should NOT be connected for 4 monitors- that is, connect 2 mons to each independent card. Can anyone else advise re Crossfire GPUs and connecting multi mons?Alex Reid
October 20, 200817 yr >-Daniel:>my cards have 2 dvi port so the total is 4 but i really need>to know how to connect 4 monitor 19 inch lcd>>should i crossfire my card together mean should i connect my>2 cards together and after that i shuld connect the for>monitor (one monitor with one dvi )Hey Daniel. You're ati 4780s should do fine to run 4 monitors. You do not want them cross-fired. That makes the 2 cards act like 1 single card, which is good if you run a very large, high resolution monitor but you can only run 2 monitors off of it.When they are not in cross-fire connection you can simply plug a monitor into each dvi port in the back of the card. Like said earlier, you may need an adapter if your monitor uses the blue, VGA connector. You'll need to restart the computer when all the monitors are plugged in. Then reboot up and go to the windows display settings in the control panel, or right click on the desktop and go to display properties. Enable the other monitors like in these picks by selecting the Extend box and applying it.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/193539.jpg http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/193540.jpg There are good sites that explain it in more detail, like this one with a video: http://www.pcworld.com/video/id,367-page,1-bid,4/video.htmlLet us know if there's any other question! I've been having a blast on the FSX missions with the 3 displays I have.
October 21, 200817 yr Alex, I need your support again, sorry ;-)I don get the fine tunning of my views.Could you copy&paste the part of your panel.cfg with the forward, forward_right & forward_left DIR & EYE values? Thanks a lot.MAD
