October 18, 200817 yr WHQL 178.24 out on 25th October 2008.In my case, this version seems to have cured some irritating little quirks when using FSInn (sluggish window pop-up and intermittent screen corruption). The NVidia control panel also seems to load more quickly. Performance: FSX may be a LITTLE smoother than with version 178.13, but if so not by much. October 18, 200817 yr Thanks for the heads up, Tim. I'll download and report back later.Ulf BCore2Duo X6800 3.3GHz4GB RAM Corsair XMS2-8500C5BFG 8800GTX, Creative SB X-FiFSX Acc/SP2, Vista 32
October 18, 200817 yr I installed them yesterday and saw no performance gains from the 178.13. My 3DMark Vantage benchmark did not see any performance gains and actually dropped about 10 points (which is nothing). But they are WHQL and I like to install the latest WHQL drivers for my hardware. I remember the first display drivers for my Nvidia 8800GTX had a 3dMark Vantage benchmark of 8348 a year or so ago and now my 3dMark benchmark is 13034 with the latest drivers. Nvidia also released new Motherboard drivers for all their products. The latest version is 20.08. If you have a Nvidia MB, I recommend you upgrade to the latest version. It also includes the 178.13 display drivers but you can uncheck installing the display drivers if you want to keep what you have.Jim
October 18, 200817 yr No change in fps or image quality for me. Same smoothness (with fps limited to 27 fps) as with my previous 177.92. No problems :-)Ulf BCore2Duo X6800 3.3GHz4GB RAM Corsair XMS2-8500C5BFG 8800GTX, Creative SB X-FiFSX Acc/SP2, Vista 32
October 18, 200817 yr I've been experiencing the dreaded nvlddmkm.sys has stop responding and nvlddmkm.sys blue screens since installing this driver. I'm going to drop back to the 177.92 beta and see if the issues clear.
October 18, 200817 yr "I've been experiencing the dreaded nvlddmkm.sys has stop responding and nvlddmkm.sys blue screens since installing this driver. I'm going to drop back to the 177.92 beta and see if the issues clear."That sounds like you had a bad install. I would try to reinstall them over the current installation. It could also be an overclocking issue too. The dreaded nvlddmkm.sys error is more of a memory issue than anything else. I can easily get this error by simply moving my FSX sliders up to max, especially the LOD slider. I keep the LOD slider to medium and the errors stop. That's my system. Even though you have a 64 bit system, you can still get memory problems if you put too many demands on your CPU/GPU with instructions and too much overclocking. You just have to tweak it for the optimum performance. Hope this helps.Jim
October 18, 200817 yr Solved the Blurries for me on my 8800GTX, unbelievable, finally! interesting side note I had to check the FSX anti aliasing check box to get the same quality, despite the same nhancer settings.Happy Days :-)
October 18, 200817 yr I do not have a bad install. It's the drivers plain and simple. I've reverted back to the 177.92's and all is now well (Just for grins I reloaded the 178.24's and the crashes come right back). That is of course on my system with no changes to my FSX configuration or my system configuration.

I was just suggesting a bad install and a scenario I had when I got the display driver not responding error. Everyone has a different system setup but it is strange the new drivers are not working on your system and they work great for others. I would recommend you send a bug report to Nvidia techs as that's about the only way they are going to know people are having problems.Best regards,Jim

October 19, 200817 yr >So please explain to me your proof...........My proof is the problems mentioned in this forum with every new driver release, which I never seem to have. >However, YOUR system is NOT MY system and YOUR system is not configured identical to MY systemLet
October 19, 200817 yr I have had the same problems as Sargeski with the 178 series drivers as well. Note the common compoenet here - the 8800 GTX card. You are using the newest 280 card, so you probably will not see the problem. These problems were a very well known issue with the 8800 GTX cards when Vista first came out, and the drivers were new. Nvidia acknowledged and fixed the issue, and now it seems to have cropped up again with the new drivers.
