i7 vs quads...new rigs out already

Featured Replies

Several web sites already have i7 rigs for sale. Cyberpower is one and there are others. While it is early I am wondering how the i7 920 will perform in FSX compared to the quads and dual cores. The i7 920 is not priced that bad from Cyberpower. While I am sure a lot of people may have problems with them....some may not...but the point is a similar q6600 rig is about the same in price....not much difference at all. I guess will just have to wait to see someone post some performance results from the i7 920 and its big brothers.

Re: FSX performance on i7in heavy AI scenarios performance should increase, also textures should load quicker but your average fps is unlikely to increase much over a Q6xxx/Q9xxx-based system at the same clock speed (outside of the aforementioned heavy AI scenarios, of course). If a system builder is offering an i7 system for approximately the same money as a Q6xxx-based computer, they are over-charging for the Q6 system. A lot. i7 processors are more expensive, require the use of more expensive DDR3 memory, and the motherboards are vastly more expensive. None of this adds up to similar prices.

Surprised no one has reported on a new i7 for FSX setup yet?Yet with the ram and MB prices, I can understand why.Prices are just crazy high here in Canada for a i7 setup.

This was my point with the original post. I am running old gear and am wanting to get a new system. Had my mind set on Q6600 all the parts from NewEgg when the i7 came out. CyberPower is using some of the components that I can price at NewEgg...m/b 220$....cpu 319$....mem....around 100$. When I use the case and other parts I had priced for the Q6600 build I was at the price...or very close to it....of the i7 920 from CyberPower. Then I also saw the Dell special...hate Dell....even though I have used plenty of them. The problem comes when and if you want to drop in a new chip or even a new m/b. Too much proprietary stuff. At least with the m/b in the CyberPower PC I could drop a better i7 in a year or two from now or even a new mother board as the case is ATX form factor. I was just hoping to hear of someone who had one already. I don't see how it could be any worse than a Q6600. I have read all of the reviews on most of the sites I know about but here is the thing. No one really bench marked it against FSX...as NickN pointed out. You read on Guru3D...TomsHardware...and other sites...that even the 920 will blow the QX9...series out of the water. I don't know about that. All of us who use FSX know that it is unlike any other game out there. On the gaming sites no one is interested in the i7 as it will not help them. all they want is a better GPU...except for the few posters on those sites who use FSX. Everyone says wait and that is a good idea but I only use the sim in the winter and if I wait til the end of January I might as well wait another year....LOL I will start fishing and golfing at the end of March.....will only use FSX very little then...but in the winter I fly for 12 or more hours a day. It is a great time killer for me while the weather is bad. I don't want the Dell but the deal is over with I think at midnight tonight. Swore I would never buy another one but then I swore I would never use the " never" word again. Thanks for the response
