November 28, 200817 yr Hi, I just reinstalled Vista 64 bit after NVIDIA's Sytems Tools meesed it up bad. I downloaded he latested drivers for my EVGA 9800 GTX cards in SLI mode. I ran FSX with PMDG 747X for about 10 min and the graphics went crazy and I got this message in Windows:A problem with your video hardware caused Windows to stop working correctly.Problem signatureProblem Event Name: LiveKernelEventOS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3Locale ID: 1033Files that help describe the problemWD-20081128-1443.dmpsysdata.xmlVersion.txt View a temporary copy of these filesWarning: If a virus or other security threat caused the problem, opening a copy of the files could harm your computer.Extra information about the problemBCCode: 117BCP1: FFFFFA8006B56010BCP2: FFFFFA6003823920BCP3: 0000000000000000BCP4: 0000000000000000OS Version: 6_0_6001Service Pack: 1_0Product: 768_1The game stopped for a bit the started working again. I Started FSX again and within a minute the same thing happen with PMDG 747X. November 29, 200817 yr Try an earlier video driver? Carl Hudson Intel i3 550 @ 4.20GHZ on Air with Arctic Freezer Pro 7 / Arctic Silver 5 - 4Gb Corsair XMS 3 - GIgabyte H55M-UD2H Motherboard - Asus GeForce GTX280OC 1Gb
November 29, 200817 yr My guess is that would be the dreaded nvlddmkm.sys crash. Search your hard drive for nvlddmkm.sys (and search hidden files and system files) and see how many copies of nvlddmkm.sys are found in other folders under Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository. If you have more than one copy you need to o some cleaning. Once the Nvidia driver has crashed, the only proper way to recover and do anything graphics intensive is to REBOOT the computer else it will continue to crash.
November 29, 200817 yr If you're running the most recent 180.48 video driver, I had the exact same error with another title with my system using an 8800 ultra card. I found in my Vista event viewer that right before getting the application error, I also received a "video problem detected" and/or "video was reset" (this is not the exact message text, something to this effect). I had to revert to the 174.x drivers and the problem appears for the moment solved.Hope this helps,Etienne
November 29, 200817 yr I can verify that the 180.48 drivers cause my Vista 32 to freeze after an hour or so. 178. drivers are fineBob Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.
November 29, 200817 yr That seems to be affecting more than just FSX based on what I read today so this does not appear to be an FSX specific issue. A shame really as when they work, the 180x series seem to offer a bit more performance all around.Etienne

After talking with EVGA I and getting a new card!
