How to reload textures without restarting FS9?

I'm a complete newbie at repainting, so here goes.I'm not sure if I'm doing it correctly, but everytime I edit the texture_i'm_doing.bmp, I need to exit FS, then restart FS and choose the aircraft to see the new texture reflected in the sim. Is there anyway to load the new texture without reloading the program? TIA

I'm not sure this would work but you can try...load up ur FS..Select ur aircraft and look at itthen press cancel..then paste ur new texture into the texture folderand select aircraft again..hope it works ;)

Use the demo version of FSrepaint, that way to you see your paint without loading the simDan.

In my opinion, this goes with the territory. In scenery design and repaints... Waiting for the sim to reload is the most time consuming thing in the whole thing....... But... Gives you time to go to the bathroom. Thats the brite side.Joe W.

Great idea to use demo version of FSrepaint! But . . . the first time I ran it . . ."FATAL ERROR - "XX" is not a valid integer value. The program will be terminated. Please, send this screen to Abacus for support."So somewhere in 100s of aircraft and thousands of repaints I've got a fltsim.xx or something similar.Sadly, I can't figure out how to make the Windows XP search function look in .CFG files, even with "all folders and files" selected.In any case, IMHO to have a demo crash on something so simple is in itself a fatal error for the sale of a piece of software.Jon

UPDATE: Well, ya know there's always a gift lurking somewhere and I downloaded a nifty text search program called "Super Text Search". Good find. And the culprits were my PAI models that I hadn't yet got textures for, of course they have fltsim.xx in the template.Fixed those up (heaven knows how the PAI texture installer will react) and voila I can view models.Jon

And I found that it is even better then loading the aircraft into FS9. The FSRepaint will paint the aircraft using the bmp maps right out of Photoshop. No need to convert them until you are rady to use them in FS9. So all you have to do is use imagetool to convert the original to a standard bmp bitmap image, load it into PhotoShop oPaintshop Pro, change an area, save it as a standard bmp bit map in the texture folder of the aircraft, check out the changes in FSrepaint, do some changes, and then when finished use imagetool to convert it to the FS9 needed format so it will work in FS9. (to see the new image in FSRepaint, you will need to select a different aircraft design and then come back to the aircraft you are working on. forced reload)Regards,BobSSeems the rage to talk about the "size and speed" of each others computer. The way I have always done it was to just reload another plane...something simple like the default 172. Then reload the plane you are working on. The textures will be refreshed....same thing when working on panels.Having said that the FSRepaint Demo idea is absolutely the greatest tip. I just saved myself a ton of time lining up the UPS logo on a repaint I was working on. Fantastic.Mark.

Mark,I've used the switching planes method too but I quickly found, at least on 2002, that doing it too many times or too quickly would crash the sim. Leave you plane open in FS9 in spot view. Make your paint change,save to the aircraft texture file. In menu (FS9)Options/Settings/Display/Hardware, move the global max texture slider a bit and it will reload the textures. Pretty fast also.John
