September 25, 200421 yr Anyone else tried to use this, it is not a help at all from what I can see. the layers are nothing more than just layers of the painted plane, all lines, shadows and rivets are the same layer, am I missing something?Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/PBTMCa.jpgCalVirAir International VACalVirAir International Best, Michael KDFW
September 30, 200421 yr Michael,You are right, they originally issued a paintkit as you describe, but have since uploaded a much more painter friendly version. Seperate layers for reg. number and livery, except for the tail... they still have the livery and rivet detail on the same layer. The developer has posted a blank vertical stab to use as a cut and paste layer so all is well now.Links are in the Flight1 forum.Dave HChief Operating OfficerEagle Express Virtual Airlineswww.EagleExpressVA.com
September 30, 200421 yr Author Hey Dave, yeah, I saw that and have it but that is kinda unprofessional in my mind to release a paintkit like that. It is a payware product and they had to have a paintkit to do the original, how hard would it have been to make it work right the first time. I have since, made a whole fuse template that you can do your paint on and then merge it and cut and paste to the paintkit to make it all line up, works great. I have a couple of paints I am going to upload and I'll include the template for anyone that wants to paint it.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/PBTMCa.jpgCalVirAir International VACalVirAir Internationalhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/92722.jpg Best, Michael KDFW
October 1, 200421 yr Michael, You have a very good point. I am sure I am not alone when I say that a very well done paint kit is much appreciated by us painters (even ham-fisted hacks like myself) Excellent paint kits have spawned a whole new hobby of painting for me.I look forward to getting that template and your paints. I like that paint you have above, but I'd watch those guys by the Jeep. They look like they're getting ready to steal a plane.Regards,Dave HChief Operating OfficerEagle Express Virtual Airlineswww.EagleExpressVA.com
October 30, 200421 yr Roger Dial, who was the developer, frankly had a problem with issuing a "complete" paint kit because he didnt want to reveal "all his tricks". Rivets etc arent rocket science so that attitude is not conducive to a good paint kit. Thats my view.Rogers a great guy and a great developer, but dont think personally he's a believer in "paint kits". Im a painter, so I do identify with his point of view. I wouldnt give my source stuff away either...but Im not issuing payware.Eric AND
October 31, 200421 yr Commercial Member >I wouldnt give my>source stuff away either...but Im not issuing payware.>>Eric>And being payware is even more reason not to release source.Ask the MS team if they will give you the source files Eric. It's payware isnt it? I assure you I won't be.I believe Roger's issue was more about that he is essentially handing over and doing most of the work for the painter which equates to no real thinking on the part of the painter. This point can surely be argued by both perspectives.Bottom line is that he did correct the templates (several times now)So why are you continuing this topic? Eric, I have bent over backwards for you many times as a customer, but most of the posts I see from you are geared at digging at us for something. Not sure I understand why?Jim Rhoads
October 31, 200421 yr Why don't you download the template and tell me it's not layered. Frankly, I've taken the available template so far with the layer separation that it's not even repainting anymore. Just presto changeo with the color change tool and you have a new plane."edited paragraph delete" There are a couple reasons I've stayed away from forums outside our support forum for two years. When I push back, the monster comes out and he gives me indigestion. Years of couching jabs with "great guy" addendums is no less irritating.Roger
November 24, 200421 yr Roger & Jim,As one of the previous posters have said, painting aircraft has become a hobby unto itself. One of the criteria that I use to decide which aircraft I purchase is based on the quality of the paintkits that are available for them. I derive as much enjoyment from painting and sharing my paints, as I do in flying the aircraft. I have been a purchaser of quite a few of Flight1/Dreamfleet aircraft before I became involved with painting. The usability of the paintkits from Flight1/Dreamfleet that I have seen so far do not meet my expectations. I would have purchased the 172 by now had it not been for the negative reports on the paint kit. I realize that the product that you provide is for the enjoyment of sim fliers and are excellent for this purpose. I am just diappointed in that the paint kits could be much better if it were not for protectionist views. As a purchaser of premium add-on aircraft, I enjoy decorating my planes with both my paints and the paints of fellow contributers. The availability of high quality paints definatly is a foctor in my decision to buy an aircraft. -Karl
November 28, 200421 yr Hello, there is nothing wrong with the paintkit. Its just fine. Here's the catch.first of all , you need a graphics editing painting which supports layer(PSP , PS , Gimpto name a few)set the layer of the fuselage to multiply. Then paint everything that you want the rivets and lines to overlap below that fuselage layer, and anything you want to cover the lines and rivets and stuff above it.hope this helps..
November 30, 200421 yr A paintkit can be made of a few layers from the original for example:Shadows / lights / Details etc...You can hide all the tricks and tips if you don't want to but it takes time ;-)Andr André
