Consensus on X -vs- FS9 VoxATC?

Featured Replies

Okay, so I just watched the little video that came with this months Computer Pilot magazine. The two pilots were flying a Boeing 737 and were using voice commands to work with the ATC. That looked cool. I also just got done with a real world flight from Ponca City, OK to my home airport in Hutchinson, KS. I'm a new pilot and haven't "experienced" a lot of the busy airspace ATC stuff around Wichita. Basically, I'd like to practice some of the more complex ATC things with my simulator. So, I have FS9 that runs pretty good on this PC and I have FSX. FSX runs okay since I'm mostly a low and slow kind of guy. With my current settings, I get around 20-25 fps in FSX. Would VoxATC X slow me down much? Would I be better off getting the FS9 version? What is the consensus on this add-on. Worth it or not? What I'm trying to do is simulate my real world flights as accurately as I can on the PC. Voice ATC would go a long way in that. Thanks for any advice.

You can download and try a demo of both to see how they worked on your system. VoxATC X and FSX are the future so I would recommend leaning that direction and you will find that VoxATC X has a much less pronounced effect on frame rates in FSX than VoxATC did in FS9. You also have the benefits of more programming in VoxATC X and the addition of handling AI traffic.

I fly VOX in FS9 (VOX ATC UK) & FSX, with no noticeable affect on my FPS. Visual AI works decently for me in ATC UK FS9 as well. Generally (also in FSX) I turn off collisions, which helps in rare conflicts on taxiing, without spoiling anything, and even slightly improving my frame rate. I'll not be surprised if ACES buy VOX ATC technology for their next simulator. I'm sure the author of VOX ATC has acquired a huge knowledge and experience through this development. VOX ATC is the 3rd in my flying hierarchy after MSFS itself and VATSIM. I have not flown VATSIM too long, and VOX helps immensely to keep you current and addicted.Dirk.
