May 12, 200818 yr Hi, Andy:PILOT heat -- THAT'S funny, but makes perfect sense! Yes, all the altimeter, temp, and speed readings come from those little tubes hanging off the front and trailing edges of the wings (and elsewhere on the plane). Those are called pitons -- if they freeze up, your autopilot is obviously rendered useless as all readings go to 0 (zero). And then you're "kaput". Smooth Skies! -- Chuck B.
