(Old) French Polynesia scenery - Bora Bora, Maupiti etc...

Featured Replies

I am trying to remember which was the MSFS scenery of French Polynesia Tahiti region (Society Islands) in the 90's that really stunned me. I flew there (real) recently and one amongst the basic reasons for it were the memories of flying there with FS years ago :-)I think it was a payware and not freeware and I think it was for FS98.All I remember now from back then is flying to Bora Bora NTTB and Maupiti NTTP and landing in between tropical trees close by with amazing 3D detail and being surprised by the excellent graphics for that FS period and the - very FIRST for that era - reflection of the Maupiti island mountain on the sea of the lagoon. You would fly next to the island and the mirrored reflection of the mountain would move in the water as you flew past.I googled it and could not find any reference to that scenery. I found the freeware sceneries for FS2002 & 2004 but the one I refer certainly was not amongst them.Any clues as to which scenery was it ?Any location of screenshots ?Thanks in advance.Kyprianos Biris :-cool

So it's not any of Bill Melichar's scenery's? A search on his name in the file library gives me a lot of good quality freeware scenery for this region.

Hello Kyprianos,I think you refer to Wilco's Tahiti scenery. It was indeed for FS98. I remember having participated to the beta testing of this product. For the time, it was a stunning scenery. The developers were two brillant french students. I can remember the night where we finalized the product for the master CD. We started that evening at 8:00 and ended at 6:00 in the morning. I was already retired at that time, so I could go back home and hit the sack, but the other guys just went for breakfast before going to work....Edited: found an old review of the product on this page: http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$=main/review/tahiti.htmThere was also an excellent, freeware, rendition of the Society Islands by Chris Wilkes:http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/c...gh/fs98gold.htmJean-JacquesJJ StruyfBraine-L'AlleudBelgium

I remember some French Polynesia scenery done by (obviously) some French company for FS2000. It came on one CD, had a photo realistic textures of lagoons and islands. As far as I remember it didn't work in Fs2002, plane would sink into the ground. Quality for that time was awesome, but as Kyprianos I cant' recall any links for that scenery :(edit - I think I found it : http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$=main/review/poly.htm

if you search the file library for the author Kazuo Kawamurathere are a alot of great looking sceneries there.

Ben,Kazua Kawamura has produced excellent sceneries for the French Poynesia, but they are for FS2004. The sceneries Kyprianos was referring to are for FS98.Jean-JacquesJJ StruyfBraine-L'AlleudBelgium

Jean-JacquesI took Kyprianos post to mean he was interested in any fs with the scenery - I haven't had time to check which areas Kazuo Kawamura covers - he has produced them fo fsx as well now.ben

Ben,On my FS2004 setup I am using Kazuo's Tuamotu, but did not install his French Polynesia's files. Instead I am using Bill Melichar's sceneries. Do you think I would be better by using Kazuo's scenery?Jean-JacquesJJ StruyfBraine-L'AlleudBelgium
