The 30-fps Sweet Spot...is A Myth! I've Proved It!

Recommended Posts

Might as well throw in my 2 cents. Since hooking up my ASUS 26" widescreen LCD, I've had to do all sorts of tweaking to get things right. First of all I made a 4:3 aspect ratio "hardware profile" to alleviate the "stretching" on my widescreen. I finally got the nVidia GTX260 to work, with AA, using nHancer (lots of posts here on that topic!). Now, something to keep in mind, V-SYNC only limits your FPS to refresh rate when playing full screen mode...I've always flown FS in Windowed mode and I can get up to 160-170 fps when using unlimited fps setting AND V-SYNC enabled. When I play Silent Hunter 3, however, I max at 60...it's a "full screen" game. I went to "unlimited", after years of locking fps at 30, due to some horrible stutters with my new system...that fixed it...BUT, since I OC the GTX260, I actually had it shut down on a flight with the PIC 737 due to overheating. Apparently "unlimited" FPS setting also causes some extreme heat at the GPU...which makes sense. Long story short...I've locked my fps at 60 now. No GPU heat problems and only a few stutters as I turn the aircraft at a busy airport (meaning I'm loading new textures during the turn), nothing like at first. I still have not found a way to alleviate these texture loading stutters, but they are very minimized now. I've tried going back to 30 fps lock...and horrible stutters return.ASUS Rampage Extreme x48Intel C2Q 9650 3.0ghz4gb OCZ RAMBFG GTX260, 896mb(C:720, S:1480, M:1220, mhz)SoundMAX X-fi So, I agree that the 30 fps lock doesn't apply to everyone...but it was the only way to fly on my old CRT.Vic
