ATI 9700 Help!

Featured Replies

Hey guys! I don't post here much but any help would be greatly apprecitated! I have one problem with my card... On some aircraft it seems the jaggies just won't go away on certain angles. I have some pics here to show you what im talking about... http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/3923.jpghttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/3924.jpghttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/3925.jpgI run my flightsim in 1280x1024, Locked at 25 frames and stays there. Like i said it only does this on certains angles, but if i have a 300$ card i would like to see good results on all angles I run the settings at 4x AA and 16x Aniostrophic Filtering because it gives the best performance. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem??I also found out that, the full screen anti-alising doesn't work in Flightsim (When you go to the Display settings and check AA). If you turn it on or off it doesn't do anything at all. So if anyone can help me fix the AA in flightsim, that would be greatly appreciated!! :)Thanks in advance,Robert1.2AMD T-birdGigabyte GA-7DX+786 DDR333 RamSound Blaster Audigty MP3+60GB IBM HDATI Catalsyt 3.2 Drivers

Hi Robert,if you have anti-aliasing checked in the display properties of your card, and have unchecked the 'application preference' box, the card will override the FS settings, so turning it on or off within FS will make no difference. Personally, I would use the card's settings - I think FS will only enable 2x AA (but I could be wrong here, maybe someone can clear this up)As to your jagged edges, it looks like it's a 2D display issue, as it only appears to affect the textures in your screenshots, and not the body of the plane. Have you tried 6x AA, or different Mip Map settings?Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg

Thanks for replying, but i've tried many different settings with mipmaps and that sort of stuff. With defualt settings, there jaggies all over the place, i mean my GF2 MX-400 was even better looking. So i know for a fact that the AA in flightsim isn't turning on... I have it checked but nothing is affected by it.Thanks for the help again, but anyone else have any suggestions??Thanks in advance,Robert

Yes this is true. AA and AF are controlled in the ATI driver applet. I am doing 1600 x 1200 x 32 with 16AF and 4xAA and always have the full effects with fantastic graphics. I have the Catalyst 3.1s in.Noel

As far as I know the Radeon does not support 4x FSAA at 1600x1200. It will automatically revert to 2x FSAA. I do not want to be a smartass, but it would be interesting to see someone with better knowledge than me to confirm this or not. However jsggies like in the pics are not normal at all. At FSAA 4x and 1280x960 or FSAA 2x and 1600x1200 I need a magnifying glass to see jaggies. I found that changing the driver settings while running a DirectX application in the background, sometimes don't work. I got confused by this in the beginning. Try to set FSAA 4x and restart your computer. Fira up FS2002 and see if it has changed.Alex

Rob, It's weird but the jaggies only seem to appear on the textures for the graphics not the planes themselves ??. I do know that 1280 x960 will cause some distortion in the image. almost a stretching if you will which seems to be what you are experiencing. If you really want to see some beautiful image quality that will make those 1280x960 shots look silly make sure you are running the latest Chipset drivers be it Intel or via. Download the latest Omega drivers from www.Omegacorner.com. Go into your display settings on your desktop. Turn AA to 6X AF to 16X set your preferences to quality and than go into FS2K2. Check all the boxes under the hardware settings and run 6 Lights. Set resolution to 1024x768x32 and fire it up. Not responsible for the drool on your keyboard. Depending on your CPU and memory try turning the resolution to 1600x1200. Someone posted that the card reverts to 2XAA at this resolution but if it does it's news to me. Surely doesnt look like it in any of my views. Even at a 150% zoom. It truly is amazing w this card.Bobby

They wouldn't happen to be the "Intel 800 Series Integrated Chipset, v.4.01.1001, A06" it should be on my system though concidering it was released 5/20/2002.This is one of my only gripes with my Radeon 9700. Anyone know if the Pro version elminates these jaggies?

Eric these are not on dells website. Try this link: www.Omegacorner.com . They are located under the Radeon tab on the left side. If its an intel based board your running head over to Intel.com and find the latest chipset drivers for your particular board.Bobby

The 9700 Pro supports up to and including 6x AA at 1600 x 1200 x 32. I have noted the difference personally between 2x and 4x, and have seen the benchmarks that indeed verify the degradation in performance that comes with increasing AA at 1600 x 1200. To see some benchmarks at different resolutions go here: http://www.rage3d.com/reviews/Ati/ati9700p/?page=4Cheers

Hey guys, I have the latest Omega Drivers installed already. When i have all the settings set on Application preference (AA and AF) Flightsim has Jaggies all over the place. The FSAA in flightsim don't work for some reason. I have the latest BIOS drivers, for my Gigabyte, so i donno whats happening. When i had the GF2, It looked alot better than this, because the FSAA in flightsim acully worked. I play alot of games, and the ATI 9700 works great in them all, its jsut Flightsim, that doesn't want to corrperate correctly. Heres a pic of the crap quialty that im getting, with everything set to application preference.......http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/4036.jpghttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/4037.jpg---------------------------------------------When i turn the AA and AF on in the settings it looks like this, but you can still see jaggies because the FS FSAA isn't working...http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/4038.jpghttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/4039.jpg

I have the same exact issues with the Omegas. I had the same problems with ATI's 3.0A drivers but not with their 3.0, 3.1, 2.5, or 3.2 drivers. I'm hoping the next driver fixes everything.

I don't know what to tell you guys. I'm in the process of reinstalling all my software as I have just put everything in a new case and decided it was time for spring cleaning. As soon as I have it up I will post some screenies for you guys to show you my Image quality w the Omega's.BobbyP.S. Noel, nobody said you wouldnt see a drop in performance running 16x12. Of course you will. But as far as I can see 6XAA is certainly working on my machine at that resolution.

Hers 2 screenshots. These were taken at 1600X1200X32 / 6XAA / 16XAF / 8 Lights with all boxes checked. Tri-linear filtering and display settings set from within display properties in windows. These are also taken running the latest Omega Drivers and DX9a.http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/4160.jpg

Well thanks for the help, but its still not working... :'(Do you think updating the ATI BIOS would do anything?? Ive talked to quite a few people who have this same problem, but nooone seems to know how to fix it... :'(Robert
