April 14, 200917 yr I don't feel the MD-11 lacks in "eye candy" at all. It looks better than EVERY plane Wilco offers. The MD-11 is the best addon aircraft ever made alongside the A2A WOPIII P-47 with Accusim, IMHO.I'm also running vista 64 and have absolutely zero issues with crashes. April 15, 200917 yr Commercial Member Re SP2 issues... the Simconnect installation may be corrupted. This seems to happen when SP2 has been removed and re-installed.To solve this:◦Control Panel --> Add/Remove programs. ◦Ensure "Show All updates" (XP) or "View Installed Updates" (VISTA) is enabled. ◦Find and select "Microsoft Flight Simulator X SP2". ◦Click "Remove" and confirm uninstallation of FSX-SP2.You might not be able to find the "Microsoft Flight Simulator X" entry in the Add/remove list. If this is the case...◦Close the Add/Remove program window and open it again. ◦Find and select "Microsoft Flight Simulator X SP1". ◦Click "Remove" and confirm that uninstallation of SP1 (might require FSX Disk 1).Go to this folder:C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\Delete these entries 3:x86_Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.60905.0_....x86_Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.61242.0_.....x86_Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.61259.0_....◦Insert Your "Microsoft Flight Simulator X" Disk 1.◦Run Setup from the root folder on the CD.◦Select "Repair" and ok. It can take a longtime to finish and progrees might seem as if it has haltet. Just wait until it finishes.◦Install SP1.◦Install SP2.Simconnect has now been restored. April 15, 200917 yr 150$ worth of personal BEFF if i may say so. That is for pmdg 747 and MD11.Have both and zero problems. Check your PC for stability with Prime95 for example, before blaming add-ons.
April 15, 200917 yr This one is a no brainer, it's worth every penny. The positives:Performance is phenomenal. Very little if any frame rate hit on my 6 year old system running FSX.Systems depth is fantastic. You can suffer from hundreds of types of failures all with appropriate consequences, or have 100% reliability. Your choice. The sounds are also fantastic. The F/O and pushback communications are as real as it gets. The MD-11 itself is a fun airplane. Hand flying is different given it's unique qualities, and the automation philosophy is different than Boeing or Airbus. It's able to do the longhauls, but if that's not your cup of tea, there are many real-world routes that range from 45min to 3 hours. The negatives:The manuals are very realistic in the sense that the look, feel, content, and layout mirror the real-world FCOM, QRH, MEL, etc. I was a bit disappointed that there were numerous spelling and formatting errors contained in the manuals though. I haven't checked the latest revisions to see if it's been fixed or not.Even with stock FSX weather, a registered copy of FSUIPC, and very aggressive attenuation of changes to wind speed and direction (1kt and 1deg every 30 seconds), with a tailwind, NAV mode can't always maintain the FMS track and it "S-turns" repeatedly. Going to HDG mode is no help in that situation either. This is an intermittent problem, and not a significant impediment to completing a flight. There is insufficient performance data available in the manuals to do proper flight planning. There is no data for takeoff performance, FLEX temps, optimum Dial-a-Flap settings, cruise burn, etc., in the provided manuals. Some of this data was recently compiled by one dedicated user and formatted into a series of realistic charts that are now available for download in the forum. For calculating fuel burn, you'll either have to rely on the FMS, or use an external program. The final score is a landslide; buy it. You won't be sorry.Nick
