The only thing I don't always use is bloom and lense flare unless taking screen shots. Aside from having a fast computer, just as important is having your operating system, video card settings, and FSX set up properly. You can get the fastest computer out there but if any of the above are not tuned properly you will not get good performance. I recommend when you get your new system to use NickN's free setup guide or use a payware service like FS-GS to properly tune your system to get the most out of FSX. I spent the extra money and did a 6 hours session with FS-GS and have been set ever since.I had my system built last year and I am very happy with the performance I get in FSX running a dual core at 3.85 ghz and 2 gb's of RAM. I fly complex aircraft into large addon airports with lots of AI and never suffer from the dreaded blurries or OOM errors. Plus I run a lot of other addond, some of which I have in my sig, and I get absoulely great performance. I only spent about $1800 last April for my ststem. What Intel chip are you wanting since you didn't list a model number? You will not need the 2 video cards unless you are running two screens or one really high res screen, otherwise SLI will make no difference or may hurt your performance. Also make sure you buy good quality RAM and a good mobo if you plan to overclock.Good luck.Edit: I didn't realize until after I re-read your post that you already had the computer. Should give good performance, but the SLI may hurt unless you meet the conditions above. And you still need to make sure your OS and FSX are set up properly on a system than is clean. As cheap as FSX is why not buy a copy and try it? Worst case senario if you don't like it, don't use it until you get a new rig. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

For best performance, I would add a (second) fast hard drive and dedicate it to FSX.When running FSX, start by turning off traffic. When you are really comfortable, you can gradually addsome traffic while watching your performance. This single tip made all the difference on my systemand to this day, I'm running with freeway traffic (those little cars and trucks) disabled. Also, the fps limiter application at 30 fps (which you can find on this forum) with FSX frame-rates set at unlimitedhas proven to be a really good and smooth way to run. May 6, 200917 yr Moderator Good points. James, you may want to get rid of the default AI all together since they use the gate docking which takes a hit on frames. Go to World Of AI and download some of the packages for free and give them a try if you want realistic AI for free, plus it will help performance since the WOAI planes do dock with the gate.
