Some have suggested using sound card instead of the sound from mother board, cause sound card has its own CPU to take load off your PC.Also suggested to turn down the sound quality settings in your sound device contro panel.SOme have suggested increasing the BUfferPools options in fsx.cfg also helps

I was under impression that having a 4 core cpu would negate the idea of needing a sound card to off-load work from cpu. Sound cards just deliver better sound because they are not on the noisy motherboard. I have also increased bufferpools. What does sound quality setting do to my music files on my pc?

The topic of use of CPU by FSX is almost at the point of a thesis. FSX is an older program, and it has problems using multiple cores simultaneously. I think that's it in a nutshell.I doubt you would hear any difference listening to .MP3's on an onboard card versus a dedicated sound card. .MP3 uses such high data compression rates, you might as well listen to them on the telephone, at least in my opinion. The advantage to a decent dedicated sound card is that you can enjoy better separation (and perhaps quality) of multi-channel audio such as game or movie surround sound. Usually a dedicated sound card will also give you a small performance boost, and in the case of FSX, should also eliminate that stutter.Jeff ShylukSenior Staff ReviwerAVSIM

Found this at High Flight Simulations. Supposedly, you can tell FSX how to accept a multi-core processor through the FSX.CFG file under the [JOBSCHEDULER] command. I use this in my config file for my AMD Athlon dual-core.This tweak sets FSX to accept multi-core systems by adding the [JOBSCHEDULER] command. There are several variants that can be applied to the settings depending on if you have single, dual, tri or quad-core system.Should you choose to use this "tweak", here's how to do it:Add the following command:[JOBSCHEDULER]AffinityMask=nn = # of Cores 1 = 1 core 0001 3 = 2 cores 0011 7 = 3 cores 0111 15 = 4 cores 1111 "n" refers to the number of cores on your system that are scheduled.

FSX SP1 handles the use of multi-core CPU's..but due to the codeing of FSX not very well..but better...Todays high end CPU's can handle onboard sound equally as well as a sound card can , with little to no performance loss ever noticed or recgonized.I would suggest the culprit lies in your sound folder somewhere..havr you added any new items lately that might have caused this, or has FSX always been like this ?

I've stated a number of times in forums that setting sound on your computer to 16 bit (CD quality) instead of 24 bit helps eliminate this stutter. I've not heard that it works for anyone else, but it definately did for me.

Once again, pardon my ignorance. How do I set it to 16 bit? Went to sound section of control panel, couldn't find anything.

It sure has gotten worse. But was always there. I have only added Traffic X, UTX and GEX to my sytem.

Since I have a i7920, I should then leave it alone?

As you have a new i7 machine... And its always been there doing it...I would suspect your chipset drivers for sound..And I would flash your bios to the newest version..The JobShheudler is a debate for the i7..I never use it on any builds for FSX

Regarding setting the sound to 16 bit (cd quality), it can vary by sound card or motherboard. Try right clicking on currently active device in the listing after selecting sound from the control panel and select "properties" or there may be a properties button, then select "advanced". There might also be an audio console in the programs listing thru which you could make the change by selecting the performance tab.It's not ignorance on your part, it just takes a little persistence to find these things sometimes.Art
