June 3, 200917 yr The voices in RC4.3 are garbled and sound like they're in a coffee can and impossible to understand. I re-installed the program with the same result. Am I missing an update or a patch?I'm running Vista 64, 6 gigs of ram, and an Nvidia 9800 GTX+ video card. On-board "Realtek" sound through a Creative HS-1200 Headset.Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanx. :) George Fisher FS Economy - Gives You a Reason to Fly Virtually

Thanx. :)i've heard of this in the past, and it turned out to be settings on the sound driver. i don't remember the specific. but it was something to do with digital, or surround sound, or 5.1 settings. not sure.you're not setting fs at a higher priority, that would steal sound processing cycles from the motherboard sound device.jd JD Read my blog
June 3, 200917 yr Many sound problems are prevalent with on-board sound chips due to shared memory and CPU cycle availability. 64 bit Vista requires lots of CPU resources.Try this:Play some wavs in the RC winwood folder 85 (a pilot) and folder 18 (a controller) with an audio player such as Windows Media Player or other wav player. If they are garbled it is not the RC settings. No guarantees, but an add-on sound card is always best.Cause of distortion can be over driven headsets plugged into the wrong audio output or your mixer channel over driving the mixer main setting in your Windows or other audio setting application. Play some audio wav files from other applications to see how they sound or the garbling is exclusive to RC.RC does not use the FS sound path but goes directly to your sound app. The FS mixer settings do not affect RC audio.I suggest checking your computer manufacturer's site for any Real-Tech 64 bit driver updates. If you do decide to get an add-on sound card be sure it supports 64 bit drivers.RC controller voices do have some minor distortion introduced to simulate aircraft communication receivers. Pilot voices should be clean. The voices in RC4.3 are garbled and sound like they're in a coffee can and impossible to understand. I re-installed the program with the same result. June 3, 200917 yr Author Any wav files I can find in the Winwood "country" folders sound just fine but they seem to be chatter. There are no wav files in the numbered folders, just a text file in each of the sub folders. The only messed up sounds are the voices when I run RC4 and click on the individuals to test the sound. I have no problems with sound in any applications I have including FS9 and FSX.I had a Sound Blaster card in my previous computer but when I tried it in the Vista 64 it wasn't compatible :( George Fisher FS Economy - Gives You a Reason to Fly Virtually
June 4, 200917 yr Author Play some wavs in the RC winwood folder 85 (a pilot) and folder 18 (a controller) with an audio player such as Windows Media Player or other wav player. If they are garbled it is not the RC settings.I missed the above and checked other folders instead. Playing the sounds in folder 85 and 18 was no problem, they all sounded perfect. :( George Fisher FS Economy - Gives You a Reason to Fly Virtually
June 4, 200917 yr I assume you are using RC 4.3, not an earlier version. In the voices tabs run the speed sliders all the way to the left and see if there is any improvement.RC wavs are 11025 Hz sampled 8 bit mono. Your audio software should be able to handle that. If not, garbling could occur. Since you say they sound OK individually played outside of RC, then I'm not sure what the problem might be. Try this test:With only RC running, bring up a voices page and click the speaker icon to sample the audio. You can also try this on the aircraft page as I recall.Repeat the above with a default aircraft parked and just RC running. Increase the system load by adding your other apps normally run.If the first step sounds OK then later distorts as you add processes, then there is a priority or resource conflict somewhere.
June 4, 200917 yr Author I assume you are using RC 4.3, not an earlier version. My version says 4.3.3845In the voices tabs run the speed sliders all the way to the left and see if there is any improvement. All the sliders have been to the left, and have moved them all the way right, still garbled.Try this test:With only RC running, bring up a voices page and click the speaker icon to sample the audio. You can also try this on the aircraft page as I recall. So far I haven't even tried to use RC in FS, just in configuration mode testing the various voices. The test button for the livery and flight number also produces a garbled voice. I used RC4 in my previous computer which was an XP system with a Sound Blaster card which I mentioned is not compatible with a 64 bit system unfortunately.Repeat the above with a default aircraft parked and just RC running. Increase the system load by adding your other apps normally run.If the first step sounds OK then later distorts as you add processes, then there is a priority or resource conflict somewhere.I'll try running RC with FS later and see what happens. Right now I'm in a lengthy flight using default ATC. I was hoping somewhere there was an adjustment I could make or a patch. I haven't had trouble with anything else sound-wise, I have no problem running FS while using WinAmp to play music and even switch out to browsing the Internet at the same time with no audio problems :( George Fisher FS Economy - Gives You a Reason to Fly Virtually

I'm using a Creative HS-1200 Headset. I checked the special features setup and found that it had a couple of 3D something or other features turned on, so I disabled them and the voices are now normal.I thank all those that scratched heads here and suggested things :( George Fisher FS Economy - Gives You a Reason to Fly Virtually
June 6, 200916 yr Alky, Jd,FYI, I had the same problem after installing SP2 for Windows Vista 64 bit on my machine (I did it sometime last week through windows update). Somehow after installing that, I noticed, that on my Sound Blaster card drivers the CMSS 3d mode was re-enabled. This caused corruption of voices in rc.But after about 20 min of tinkering I reset the CMSS 3d to "off" and everything worked again.
