June 13, 200916 yr Hi: My FS9 which i have been running forever somehow will not turn on due to the error message of no virtual memory. I googled this problem and I know its happened to a bunch of simmers. I have tried all the suggested remedies with no change. I went in to the advanced properties to change the page file info. Still did not work. I changed a line by adding some additonal info using notepad. Still did not work. I downloaded smart close to close any not needed programs, still will not work. If anybody has any other suggestions please let me know. Also and I do not know if this matters: I have a ton of payware and freeware loaded with payware AI as well as additional WoA AI. Thanks Jeff

Thanks JeffIt is always a good idea to post your system specs when asking for ideas. In light of what you say you have loaded you may be asking your computer to do more than your current hardware can handle. :(
June 16, 200916 yr Usually "virtual memory" relates to your HD available space. Windows 98 called it a "Swap" file because it "swaps" your ram memory out to disk, where it stays until the OS needs the data in the "virtual" memory. How much free space you got?

Thanks JeffWith the add-ons you have installed, it stands to reason you have had FS9 working at one point in time. Try to narrow down the time right before it failed. Did you install any scenery, by chance? Sudden memory errors can often happen when FS9 attempts to build the scenery.dat files which are updated when new or changed scenery is detected. The way to know whether this is the cause or not is when you receive the OOM error. If it happens when building scenery indexes, that's a strong clue of something amiss with add-on scenery.Regards,John

June 16, 200916 yr Have you done ths?http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892610 The last time this happened to me it was caused by 2 conflicting sceneries. The 2 were Teeside and Newcastle. When i removed any of these sceneries my FS would load again. To do this i opened my scenery cfg.file and deleted one of the entries for the above sceneries.I had to do it this way because i could not start FS. whilst the conflicting sceneries were both installed.Stan
