June 14, 200916 yr I am using the new Internet Exporer 8 & Avsim does not work properly unless I am in compatability view.Specifically the graphics can be wrong and the main front news page is completely blank apart from the main logos at the top of the page. The links to the various sections of AVSIM are there & enable me to click the forums section.I realize that you have been very busy of late & that you may be well aware of the problem but I am not sure if it is you or me.Chris

June 14, 200916 yr I have no problems with IE 8 and AVSIM...DJThat is really strange as this is the only site that I have such a severe problem with & I am fully updated on IE8 patches. Are you running in compatability mode - found in tools?Am I alone with this?
June 14, 200916 yr if a Site/forum developer has time, they can add: <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" /> under the current META's, which will force IE8 to show AVSim exactly as it would on IE7 :)
June 14, 200916 yr That is really strange as this is the only site that I have such a severe problem with & I am fully updated on IE8 patches. Are you running in compatability mode - found in tools?Am I alone with this?Having done some experimentation, this is interesting. I run IE 8 on three computers - all running XP Pro and up to date with all patches; all browser settings are the same and all use the same version of JAVA (when required). Two of them display AVSIM with no problems; but one requires the use of the 'reset' option on the AVSIM top menu or compatibility mode to display the front page material. I have no idea why this is so.DJ

The current situation in which whether IE8 lets you view AVSIM, without knowing about "compatability view" & then setting it manually or guessing the reset button might help, seems to be a bit of a lottery.I use Vista incidentally & yes the reset button does it for me as well although I would never have tried that without your suggestion. I have no idea why or what the "reset" button does.Chris

It sure isn't clear what is effecting IE 8's response on various systems though.DJ
June 20, 200916 yr Has anybody from AVSIM picked up this problem?Add Avsim to your trusted sites in IE8 (Internet Options/Security) and the problem should disappear - it did at least for me.CheersJoerg
June 23, 200916 yr Add Avsim to your trusted sites in IE8 (Internet Options/Security) and the problem should disappear - it did at least for me.CheersJoergNo it hasn't changed anthing.Chris
June 23, 200916 yr No it hasn't changed anthing.ChrisChances are that there is something else causing the issue here. A lot of anti virus software programs have settings that you have to set up the same way you do your browser. Mcafee has its own firewall and if you do not set up avsim as a trusted site you will not be able to get on. Norton is the same way I think. And the other problem with IE is when you update your system it can change your security choices with out telling you it is doing that. So you can long on one day and then all of a sudden you no longer can. This happens more than what most people think. But one thing I can tell you for sure it is at your end and nothing that we have changed. So if you are still having problems you are missing something somewhere on your end.
June 26, 200916 yr What does the "reset" button at the top of the main AVSIM news page actually do? If I click it the whole page appears whilst if I don't I just get the headers but I have no idea what pressing the button has actually done.Chris

It was put there so that no matter where you were on the site, one click would get you back to the main news page of AVSIM.
June 28, 200916 yr Same problem here! After downloading IE8 only the frame of the Avsim homepage appears. This can be cured by hitting a button just right of the navigation window on IE8.When panning the mouse over this button a text appears which says (roughly translated from German into English): "Websites designed for older browsers my not be displayed correctly".Besides clicking this button clicking "Reset" on top of the Avsim homepage also cures the problem. But I have to do this at the beginning of every new Avsim session. Only the homepage is affected, not the forums, not the reviews etc.Wolfgang

The reset on the main page is to get back to the home page and that is all. Nothing is actually reset
