Hi Guthrie:Many thanks for your post. I have just decided to persevere with FSX and the PMDG744 and i am hoping that tonight, my second FSX trip back to EGLL from HECA will work out better with the S turn issue. I tried the first leg, EGLL to HECA without implementing the HIFI recommendations apart from FSUIPC off to confirm whether the s turn issue was resolved in my case, and it was emphatically not. I modded the settings as per the HifiSim advice last night and hopefully the trip back shall be smooth sailing, although i must admit that i am a little worried at loosing the turbulence. It was always something that helped break up the monotony of the 12hr long hauls so hopefully the guys are able to find the solution. I think it must have something to do with simconnect, but hey, if tonights test flight goes well i will be one happy bunny.

I am not an entirely happy bunny. But we're getting there! So....The flight from HECA back to EGLL went fairly well with the settings advised in the revisions document. I opted to go down the route of setting the 0 turbulence option.Today, to really stretch ASA's legs, i tried a trip from EGLL to SBGR... The climb out was interesting to say the least, as i received bank angle after bank angle warning and 's' turned my way into the cruise. An explore of the wx settings tab in FSX told me that turbulence was still enabled. I turned it off, things didnt really settle down much.To ensure that i was playing fair with ASA. I rebooted the machine (gotta love autosave) and closed ASA on the laptop. Restarted the sim, started ASA, got back online (yes - i have checked, The IVAO WX options are disabled). All seemed to go reasonably well for about thirty minutes. Then the S turns creeped back. I restarted ASA and got another 30 to 40 minutes of flying in a straight line in before the s-turns came back again.This time, i disabled DWC saved and applied, and then re-enabled DWC, and saved and applied again. ASA re-downloaded WX, and this time about 50 minutes of good behaviour. For the remainder of the trip, i have tried winding a few settings up and down, i have turned create additional stations on and off, and i still can only seem to get about 45 minutes of good behaviour out of ASA. Now, about 580Nm from SBGR i have winds making millisecond 90 to 180 degree turns and slight s-turns are back.I hope that that about covers it. If you should have any further questions please ask. After having flown since more than a half year the MD11 only ( with heavy problems with DWC ) , I tried the 747 again with ASA.I went from EDDT to KLAX and - big surprise - started at FL 320, later FL 340 and FL360 with NO PROBLEMS whatsoever !!I tried even the acceleration 2x, 4x and even 8x - with NO PROBLEMS !!As soon I step-climbed to FL 380 the problems started - heavy s-turns and I was forced to disable DWC - next problem started: as soon DWC was disabled the winds aloft disappeared as well - this happens also with the MD - in less populated areas ( I was over northern Canada ) and over water you need DWC to get wind information ! As soon I reached the US the winds came back after enabling DWC again and later I had to disable again ! Hello:I could have been clearer there. My system is FS9/X Only on the main XP machine, and EVERYTHING that is not FS is on the Vista Laptop.Within ASA there are two minimise options. Minimise to System Tray (down arrow into a circle) and minimise to taskbar ( the old fashioned ' - ' Symbol). All is well provided i do not minimise to the sys tray.CheersPaul

Eventually I also began to get the S turns again most noticably it occurs when I am descending through different flight levels. I was able to complete a full 9 hour flight with my 747x with 0 problems as soon as I started to descend at around transition altitude my plane started banking to the point of stalling. I was not happy with this as I thought the new HIFI sim recommended setting had in fact cured the bulk of the issue enough that the plane was flyable again with ASA.I completely disabled ASA reloaded a new flight. Turned on FSUIPC weather wind smoothing pressure smoothing etc...I started up a flight and after awhile same old s turns started occuring without ASA enabled. After further research i discovered that the PMDG planes in particular are extremely sensitive to turbulance. I read that if I was to turn off all turbulance settings in FSUIPC this behavior would stop. I turned off all turbulance settings in FSUIPC and the plane immediately stopped s turning and straightened out and did not s turn again for the duration of the 9+ hour flight.After this I disabled FSUIPC and turned on only real weather in fsx I reloaded a flight and waited and waited and then....you guessed it same s turn behavior re occured. I turned off turbulance in fsx and plane straightened out with 0 problems for the duration of the flight.Only thing I can figure is that simconnect is still a mess and Microsoft has retired the people who could possibly fix it. Microsoft will not open source this game so the many geniuses in the flight sim community could fix it therefor when I fly PMDG I do not fly with turbulance. My hope is that someone will come into the market and offer a new flight simulator that is actually worth the price they stick on the tag.Guthrie ZuehlkePS X-Plane is not the answer...

Another option is when the s turns happen, to put the autopilot on heading mode temporarily. It stinks that this phenomenon is happening regardless of if DWC is enabled, or FSUIPC smoothing is on, etc...... What I do is disable DWC for now and leave the wind and pressure smoothing to FSUIPC Lucky for me, I only observed this issue occasionally (especially on the 1st 1/3rd of the flight from EDDF to EGLL in the MD11) but I can imagine just how frustrating it is.DWC in ASA is a mess right now (the occasional +30 or more temps at cruise, oscillating wind speed and direction, and inaccurate ATIS readings on the ground that report cruise level weather at the surface), but I hope the upcoming service pack will address those issues. Nonetheless, I do prefer ASA over the default FSX weather generation.

Hello Guys:I don't think it is necessarily fair to be too hard on the HiFi Sim guys. It strikes me that it has something to do with simconnect, and hopefully the Add-On manufacturers are working with HiFi to sort the issues. What is most annoying is the fact that these things are normally very hard for a developer to reproduce. Consequently if a developer cannot reproduce the problem, how on earth can they be expected to know where to start to fix it?I have been lucky in that i have not really experienced the cooking at altitude temperature anomaly that some have, only the dreaded S turn's. Sadly though, this means that i must for now stick with FS9 as my 'heavies' sim and leave FSX for the Spitfire and the Hawk and the occasional bit of VFR.As i said, it's a shame, but i have faith that Damian and Jim are all over the issue and doing what they can to try and fix it.CheersPaul

Guys,I still think your knocking on the wrong door looking for help, see my post from the other day, and Jim's response. In 99% of the reported problems with S-Turns, Oscillations, and temperature abnormalities, what is the ONLY common denominator, PMDG. You don't see any other posts about default or other developers aircraft stating these kinds of problems. As soon as I saw the post by DaveS yesterday on -273 degree temperatures, I was willing to bet that it was with a PMDG aircraft, sure enough it was, coincidence maybe, and this was with AS6.5 in FS9, NOT ASA. These concerns are not new, nor is the common denominator. There are no (almost) other posts with these concerns from either payware or default aircraft, it's almost always PMDG. We all have our problems/concerns with different aspects of ActiveSkys line of products, I've voiced some of mine lately, but they encompass a broad range of uses/circumstances, not just one developers aircraft. I use the default, and five different payware aircraft (yes the PMDG 737-800 FS9 of course with ASA, and have no problem with s-turns, oscillations, temperature, I'm not saying they don't exist, I don't have them) and the issues I have with ActiveSkys products affect all these aircraft, not just one developers.To quote Paul (Shmiffy):

I have to totally agree, and as I stated in my post the other day, a fix will likely come from the HiFi gang (from the reading I did at the PMDG forum, I can't see them getting involved), but from the reading I did, and looking at this issue logically, it's not a HiFi problem, there's only one developers aircraft that is common in the majority of posts, that should be the only evidence you need to decide where to look for help, good luck.You might be asking, why is this guy sticking his nose in my problem? I'm getting involved because I don't want HiFi spending a lot of time on a problem that almost certainly is not theirs, although I'm sure they will, to a point(?). They surely have other things on their plate that take precedence (I'm assuming), cloud popping and sudden cloud shifts, if they can be fixed....please. These are issues that affect a broad range of users and aircraft, not just PMDG products. To me, this is like saying "I have a problem with the engine (S-turns, Oscillations, Temp problems) in my Ford car (PMDG), going down Highway X (ActiveSky), so if I drive down this same highway in my GM car (CoolSky Super80 Pro) I'm going to have a problem with my engine." There's nothing wrong with Highway X, or the engine in your GM, it's the engine in your Ford. I don't see anyone with the CoolSky Super 80 Pro (I do own it) that uses real weather of any kind, posting problems with S-TURNS, OSCILLATIONS, TEMPERATURE problems, here or at the HiFi website, do you, if so I stand corrected.Again, MY observations and opinion.Glen

Not wishing to sound rude, but I think we understand all of that already Jim, no one is pointing at you or HIFI, and same goes for PMDG, it is just a frustrating error, if I was to contact PMDG and state the problem, they will more than likely say if our software works without ASA or ASX then its not our software thats at fault. This is like phoning an ISP and they offer no support for the ADSL modem they supply, and you have to ring the manufacturers. Do you see what I am saying here, as a customer with soft and hardware, we are stuck in the middle, and if one party says its not our fault and the other says the same, then we are stuck with software that doesnt work !!I really like the weather interface from HIFI and it has improved no end with the service packs, and I am sure in time it will work fully. I also really enjoy flying PMDG's 744x, but microsoft software has always been problematic with addons and not just the FSworld. But normally things get sorted, I cannot begin to understand the programming involved within either PMDG or HIFI simulations and wouldn't want to :) So I understand how difficult it is for you guys, and for any other developer with this software and the problematic FSX, good luck in sorting it, I am frustrated but I am happy to hang in there and put up with the faults until sorted.

I sympathize with HIFI in regards to the S-turn pmdg issue. Like I mentioned before, I only saw the s turn once during cruise from eddf to egll, and I'm fine with just putting it on heading select for the brief time and then going back to LNAV when things sort themselves out. What I'm concerned about is DWC, and I just want them to fine tune it so that it works better. I believe that DWC is something they have total control of and can refine further. I do notice when things go wrong because of bad or conflicting data from various weather stations in close proximity to each other, hence the wind oscillations and temperature inconsistencies at cruise. If they can somehow work out a solution to either intropolate the weather reported among competing stations, maybe that will help, but I have no knowledge of the variables behind this phenomenon and leave it to the experts at HIFI to craft a viable solution. My wish is DWC that leaves the cruise level weather where it belongs, and doesn't apply it to the weather reported at the surface by the destination airport, so that the AI and ATIS behave according to the ground level conditions and not the conditions the user a/c is at that point of time.Regards,

This is not a problem with HIFI sim. I am sucessfully using the latest beta for ASA with the level d 767 and there are 0 problems with shifting winds. This is a specific problem for PMDG products which PMDG is not willing to admit nor fix. For that I will never purchase another PMDG product because what they do is kind of like Microsoft. They get all your cash for their one project and then they pour it into their next project "improving" it while not fixing or acknowleding bugs in their previous simulations thus creating a situation where if you want the best of the best of the best of their simulations you have to buy the latest and greatest one thus keeping their revenue stream going. This is only my opinion.PMDG has pretty much stated that they have "moved on" from their older projects ie the pmdg 747x etc...and will not be offering any updates in the near or possibly distant future. I cannot fly a PMDG plane with any turbulence setting whether its from ASA, FSUPIC, or even FSX real weather, or it will go crazy and s turn all over the place. I can fly similar jet simulators ie Level D 767 with ASA with 0 issues and very realistic winds and turbulence. I have even taken off from an airport while listening to the real air traffic control and been assigned the same active runway and nearly the exact same wind conditions as is reported live. Bottom line ASA is a phenomenal program and the support HIFI sim gives is second to none. I have no doubt this product will be nearly perfect by the time they are finished with it. As for PMDG admitting its their planes that have the problem with this simulation well...Guthrie Zuehlke
