June 22, 200916 yr I am sure that you guys have seen lots of topic posts like this, but I am so confused..I just purchases a new system, I figured this would run FSX quite well. It handles fs9 very well, but FSX runs quite slow, and forget about trying to run FSX with any add-on?I am now running XP, I was running this rig on Vista 32bit, but I had problems with the sound Card in Vista. It did not faster on Vista, even with DirectX 10.Dell XPS 630IIntel Core 2 Quad-Core Q95450 (2.66Ghz, 1333MHz, 12MB cache)4 GB Dual Channel DDR2 800 MhzHard Drive 1.2 TBGraphics 1 GB nVidia GeForce GTX 280128MB Ageia PhysX PCI cardSound Blaster X-FI XtremeKiller Gaming CardNow I am running a large monitor, an Acer P243W, running at 1920 X 1200, maybe this is the reason?I am so frustrated... I am close to throwing the dam thing out and buying an Alien-ware... Anyone have an ideas what could be wrong?
June 22, 200916 yr The main problem with that machine is the CPU - it is just too slow (2.66 GHz) to do any real good in FSX. You might try overclocking it, but it may be impossible with Dell's BIOS. The RAM is fine, except you'll want to add the 3GB switch to use 3.25GB of ram instead of 2 (or switch to a 64bit OS)Video card is good, but throws the system out of balance because it is a very fast card.A CPU overclocked to 3.6GHz and higher is where you can run FSX with med-high settings in busy cities. With your current system I'd suggest staying out of major cities and running sliders med... however, be sure to take a look at this guide to get everything out of your machine:http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=29041 | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
June 22, 200916 yr Thanks so much... I should have asked your opinion before I purchased the new machine!!!!! I just moved to Switzerland last year, PC"S are much more expensive, do you believe I paid just over 3 grand for that...
June 22, 200916 yr I believe you... unfortunately I can't upgrade until I find the holy grail for FSX performance, and I fear that will be when a new version comes out (be it MS or some other developer) HAHASo the best I can do is keep up with the tech so when the time comes I'll know what to buy. Also, check out that link I posted - I just realized my post seemed a little rude, like "your system sucks" lol - which I didnt mean... | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
June 22, 200916 yr No, not rude at all... thanks for your help..Its funny, I did my private pilot license back in Canada in 1991, it cost me all in about $6,500 at the time... Thats probably what I would need to spend to run FSX at decent frame rates... he he.. kind of ironic no... :)
June 22, 200916 yr I know I am getting way off on a tangent, but another thing that strikes me as very funny. When I was doing my license back in 1991, I remember practicing VOR navigation on FS4 and being amazed at how realistic it was... Too funny, we are so spoiled now.....http://www.planetmic.com/orbit/fs4alb03.htm

June 22, 200916 yr GenevamarcI have very close to your system. I don't run any addons, but with scenery maxed, airtraffic at 50%, I can start at active runway of KJFK at 20fps. Goes up a little after all the jetways stop moving. Also better in the air. It can be done.Bob Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.
