June 27, 200916 yr I am now a little confused (maybe a lot). I have UTX/UT2/ASX/FEX/MTX/ASA/REX/Abacus USA Extreme Landscape and World Extreme Landscape. I also have MegaScenery Hawaii and Las Vegas. First question - is the Extreme Landscape same as landclass? Second question - How should I layer these in FSX? Of course I am referring to the ground associated sceneries/textures. Wilbert Wilbert
June 27, 200916 yr If you want, you can check out a tutorial I wrote a while back that has been added to the AVSIM tutorial section. When the next page comes up, follow the instructions to click on the "Visit Support Topic" under the Tutorial Info section on the left. I made several posts in the thread, and recommend you read the entire thread. There is also a link in one of my posts in the thread to another tutorial in another forum that talks about how to layer Landclass and Terrain Mesh.I'm not sure what type of scenery the "Extreme Landscape" is you referenced. But once you determine whether it is textures, landclass, terrainh mesh, etc, you can use my tutorial to figure out how to best layer it all in the Scenery Library. You'll also discover that products like ASX, GEX, REX, etc are NOT things that you add to the Scenery Library. Hope this helps. Rick Rick Ryan

MT is the underlying structure of the earth..hills, valleys, mountains, etc. Landclass is the detail...farms, cities, parks...LC should always be layered above MT, with one exception and that is in combination with UTX. If you have UTX, custom landclass should be sandwiched in between Urban and Vegetaion in the FSX Scenery Library...UTX URBANCUSTOM LANDCLASS I.E. FSGENESISUTX VEGITATION.Hope this helpsSherm

June 30, 200916 yr Commercial Member Looking at that scenery.cfg listing it does indeed contain UTX USA.Now as I recommended in my reply to your same question in the Ultimate Terrain forum on SimFourms, I would recommend that in general you layer scenery products in the FSX Scenery Library with the ones which are most geographically specific e.g. airports, cities, etc., above those which are less geographically specific e.g. ones which cover countries or continents.Jeff

I checked my scenery.cfg and it makes the same reference....rather odd...Anyway, I still stick with my first advice about sandwiching in landclass within utx layers. FsGenesis also produces an FSX Landclass...which I also recommend. I also concur with Jeff's recommendations. In general, the larger the Terrain world covered should be lower than more specific terrain sets.Sherm
June 30, 200916 yr The first item in the FSX listing is an entry for FS9 World Scenery. That is fine. That's just the way MS made FSX.OK...let's start with some individual items in your list:Area 122: Is there ANYTHING in your Addon Scenery\Scenery or Addon Scenery\Texture folders in your FSX installation? If yes, get it out of there and make separate folders for it to add to the Scenery Library. And move your Addon Scenery to just below the Area 119 Edwards_AFB entry (so the Addon Scenery will be Area 120). Leave the Addon Scenery folders in FSX EMPTY unless you want to have possible scenery conflicts in the future.Area 123: Do you have MyTraffic fully installed? Or did you just make a separate folder for the AFCAD files that came with MyTraffic?Move ALL of your UTX entries to be just after your Addon Scenery entry. UTX covers the entire US. You have MegaScenery entries that are at a LOWER priority than your UTX. There is no way you can see the MegaScenery Las Vegas unless you disable ALL of your UTX entries. Get the MegaScenery at a HIGHER priority than UTX, then if you don't want to see the MegaScenry, you can disable the MegaScenery entries in the Scenery Library instead of having to disable all the UTX ones.Put ALL your individual AIRPORT entries BELOW UTX AND the MegaScenery. This will allow them to display properly on top of UTX or the MegaScenery.So, your printed list as shown above (the actual scenery.cfg file itself) should look more like this order:Edwards AFBAddon Scenery (It should be EMPTY in FSX...no scenery addons in it at all)UTX entries (Make SURE when you move them you keep the same order they were in before you moved them)MegaScenery entriesAFCADsIndividual AirportsNOTE: When you use the Scenery Library to move this stuff, be aware you will "line it all up" in REVERSE order to the above. Individual Airports at the TOP of the list, followed by AFCADS next lower, then MegaScenery lower, then UTX lower, etc. When looking at the Scenery Library entries in FSX, the Higher Priority items are at the TOP of the list and entries get "lower priority" as you go DOWN the list. It is the reverse when reading the scenery.cfg file as shown in your post above. The higher priority items are at the BOTTOM of the list, and you read the list from BOTTOM to TOP.Yell if you have any questions.Rick Rick Ryan

I was under the impression that all UT stuff had to be at the highest priority but have now learned different. I also supect that many flightsimmers may be experiencing problems with FSX not knowing that many of the problems may and can be caused by improper scenery configurations.I have reconfigured my scenery layering with the following. My FSX is located on drive D and my Megasceneries are located on the default install on drive C. I have taken all of my AFCAD files and put then on drive D in a folder "THIRD PARTY AFCAD". I haven't reinstalled MyTraffic yet but, put all the AFCAD from MTX in a folder on drive D "My Traffic AFCAD". I have also stored all my third party airport scenery in a folder on drive D "Third Party Scenery" . I have no scenery or afcad files located in FSX ADDON folder. Of course the payware sceneries are located in their default install folders in FSX. I have attemped to follow the suggestions that I have received from you guys. Here now is a reduced listing of my scenery config file. July 1, 200916 yr OK, the order of the stuff looks better, but there is one item I'm not sure about yet.1. What is the "CitationX Animations"? I have a feeling you may want to put that one at the very bottom of the list (top of the list in the Scenery Library, so it is Priority 1). Tell me what that "scenery" is for the CitationX Animations. You may not really need to move it (it might work anywhere in the Scenery Library list), but you may WANT to move it just so your Scenery Library and Scenery.cfg file are easier to figure out in the future.Everything else looks good. If you reinstall the entire MyTrafficX, remember you will have TWO instances of the MTX AFCADS in the Scenery Library then. You will want to delete the folder you created yourself from your hard drive and the Scenery Library, and place the MyTrafficX entry in the Scenery Library just ABOVE your Addon Scenery entry (1 priority level higher than the Addon Scenery folder). You will then have the MyTrafficX AFCADs replacing any FSX default airport parking, and any *other* AFCADS you installed yourself (in your "Third Party AFCADs" folder) would be used instead of any FSX default OR MyTrafficX AFCADs (your "Third Party AFCADs" folder is at a higher priority than both the default FSX airports and MyTrafficX). Additionally, any AFCADs included with specific airports addons like FS DreamTeam's KORD would be used above ALL other AFCADs, because you have those airport "packages" at a higher priority than your "Third Party AFCADs" folder. No worrying about duplicate AFCADs by doing it this way.Rick Rick Ryan
July 1, 200916 yr Author Rick, the "CitationX Animations" is created with the install of Wilco's Citation X aircraft. It is for the limo and escort vehicles that approach the aircraft when the door is opened (really kinda interesting). I believe this can be place anywhere. I may reinstall the MTX because of the aircraft not included with UT2 such as military aircraft and I understand now, how the laying will will have to be configured.Once again, thanks to all for your help & and patience. I am glad I did create this topic, not only for my benefit but since it was available for all to see, it may perhaps answer questions and concerns for other flightsimmers. FSX is such a versitile program with many optional configuratios and can be amazing if configured properly. I think most problems occur with addon programs that simply offers automatic "setup" without considering what other addons/programs the user may already have installed.Not only did you provide the scenery configuratio examples, you help me better understand, the way it works - I am greatful.ThanksWilbert Wilbert

You seem quite knowledgable with FSX scenery and I want to ask your opinion of this screenshot. With all of the scenery parts I have installed, why does it appear that this airport (KSEA) is elevated. Is this mesh, landclass or what?Wilbert Wilbert
